Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Orthopedic Biomechanics

This postdoctoral position in orthopedic biomechanics focuses on developing and applying musculoskeletal models of the hand, upper extremity, and spine across pediatric and adult populations. The fellow will use 3D motion capture, imaging, and computational modeling to study movement mechanics and musculoskeletal function in orthopedic conditions. Responsibilities include conducting research, developing subject-specific models and software, analyzing biomechanical data, publishing findings, presenting at conferences, and collaborating with clinicians, engineers, and scientists. The role also includes supporting grant proposals and research funding efforts. Experience with 3D motion capture, biomechanical data analysis, MATLAB, and Python is required; LabVIEW experience is preferred. Summary: Conducts research, designs experiments, analyzes data, and presents findings under the mentorship of established principal investigators. Appointment is a maximum of 2 years in length. Essential Functions Conducts research under the guidance of a faculty mentor. Assists in the training and supervision of technical support staff in performing research essential to carrying out the research program. Records and analyzes data generated by the research study. Assists in the development of hypotheses for further investigation from the results of the studies performed. Assists with the preparation of scientific and technical papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Presents findings at local and national research forums. Collaborates with other ongoing research efforts either at NCH or at The Ohio State University. Works toward research independence, preparing to submit proposals to and obtain funding from external granting agencies. Education PhD or equivalent degree in relevant field of science, required. Skills Effective interpersonal skills required in interactions with scientists, physicians, and laboratory colleagues. Experience with 3D motion capture systems and biomechanical data analysis is required. Excellent computer skills, including prior programming experience. Profiency in MATLAB and/or Python is required; LabVIEW is preferred. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills, a strong publication record, and a demonstrated interest in translational orthopedic research. Ability to proactively manage and drive projects.
