PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Director, Student Financial Wellness provides strategic leadership and oversight for Financial Literacy & Outreach and leads the Student Money Management Center (SMMC), delivering critical financial coaching, literacy education, emergency support, and financial wellness programming to students. This role oversees the development of educational, interactive, and engaging financial literacy and wellness outreach initiatives in collaboration with other departments within the Mental Health and Wellness area (Mental Health Services, CARE, Legal Services, and Student & Employee Wellbeing), as well as campus stakeholders and community partners. The Director designs, implements, and promotes comprehensive financial wellness programs that support student success. The position directly contributes to student success by addressing financial barriers, reducing past-due balances, and supporting retention, persistence, and completion. Moderate travel between Lone Star College (LSC) locations is required: occasional evening and weekend hours.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Oversees the administration of student and employee mental health and wellness programing, developing and implementing departmental goals that align with the mission, vision, and values of Lone Star College (LSC) and continually assesses for the development of the department based on skills and technical knowledge. Proactively leads financial outreach, coaching, and awareness initiatives across LSC, ensuring students have access to timely, personalized support Supervise the hiring, training, and ongoing professional development of full-time and part-time staff within the Financial Wellness department Collaborates with the Student Accounts, Financial Aid, and academic departments to resolve account-related challenges and reduce barriers to student success. Manages a caseload of students with past-due balances, conducting proactive outreach to support retention, persistence and completion Develops innovative financial wellness programming in collaboration with the Chief Mental Health Officer, Mental Health Services, CARE and Legal Services as well as campus Deans and Executive Directors to create and promote financial wellness initiatives and align departmental KPls and institutional goals Provide structured, student-centered support to help college students navigate financial challenges and build financial capability while progressing toward academic success. This includes assessing students' financial needs, developing individualized financial action plans, delivering coaching or education, monitoring progress over time, and connecting students to campus and community resources such as financial aid, scholarships, emergency funds, academic advising, or student support services. Provide and lead a team of peer counselors to provide one-on-one financial coaching to students, including guidance on payment options, budgeting, credit management, and financial aid navigation Oversees and manages departmental budgets, monitors operational costs, and ensures effective resource allocation Fosters partnerships with internal stakeholders, community agencies, area colleges, universities, and third party vendors to support financial wellness programming. Develops and disseminates financial wellness-related educational materials through various channels (e.g., website, social media, workshops, presentations, etc.) Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of programs and adjusts strategies as needed based on quantitative and qualitative feedback and data. Regularly tracks and assesses area performance metrics and strategizes ways to continuously improve student outcomes. Prepares and presents reports on program activities and outcomes as requested by the Executive Director of Student Legal Services and Financial Literacy and Legal Services and/or the Chief Mental Health Officer Fosters partnerships with area colleges, universities, and community organizations to support graduate and undergraduate internships, and professional development opportunities for staff Ensures compliance with institutional, state and federal policies Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Proven ability to lead and supervise staff, interns and peer counselors within college or university settings Strong leadership, decision-making, and organizational skills Excellent oral and written communication abilities, including public speaking Ability to effectively apply budgetary and fiscal planning technology Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree and at least 7 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience Experience must include at least 3 years in a management level position Experience in program development, and coordination

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree and at least 10 years of related experience Certified Personal Finance Counselor (CPFC) and Personal Financial Manager (CPFM) Salary: Hiring salary range is $77,356-$88,960 Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.
