Summary: The Educational Audiologist provides audiology services to children birth to age 22 throughout Chester County. Assess classroom acoustics, hearing conservation and screening programs. Analyze hearing and auditory process deficits of students that may limit access to curriculum. Plans, conducts and monitors treatment programs, recommends assistive devices according to patients' nature of impairment. Interacst with parents, teachers, school nurses to work as part of an education team. Keeps abreast of local, state and federal regulations and policies for audiology services for children birth to age 22. Essential Job Responsibilities: 1. Screening, Assessment, and Diagnostic Evaluation Conduct comprehensive educational audiological and functional assessments (preschool through age 22) Perform functional hearing assessments and noise testing to evaluate how hearing loss impacts classroom communication and curriculum access. Manage and perform specialized school screenings for students with disabilities who cannot complete standard nurse screenings. Review and interpret external clinical/medical audiological reports, translating findings into actionable school-based accommodations. Prepare clear, timely, comprehensive evaluation reports that meet state special education timelines and compliance standards. 2. Hearing Assistive Technology and Amplification Management Select, fit, program, validate, and manage personal FM/DM systems, soundfield technology, and assistive listening devices. Conduct electroacoustic analysis, troubleshooting, minor repairs, and maintenance for student devices and IU/district-owned equipment. Take earmold impressions and coordinate the fabrication, fitting, and modification of custom earmolds. Manage loaner equipment inventory, including tracking, dispensing, reconditioning, and coordinating manufacturer warranty repairs. Train students, educators, staff, and families on equipment operation, daily care, listening checks, and troubleshooting. 3. Environmental Acoustics and Classroom Accommodations Perform classroom acoustic field testing (evaluating noise levels, signal-to-noise ratios, and reverberation times). Provide acoustic consultation to school districts regarding architectural modifications, sound-treatment options, and seating placements. Evaluate physical learning spaces to ensure optimal auditory and visual access for students working with Teachers of the Deaf, Educational Interpreters, or specialized staff. 4. IEP, Section 504, and Multidisciplinary Team Collaboration Actively participate as a multidisciplinary team member in initial, re-evaluation, IEP, and Section 504 plan meetings. Contribute diagnostic data and draft measurable IEP goals for auditory access, technology use, and self-advocacy. Assist teams in developing and documenting state-mandated Communication Plans for deaf or hard-of-hearing students. Recommend appropriate service delivery models, specially designed instruction (SDI), and environmental accommodations. Collaborate closely with Teachers of the Deaf, SLPs, Educational Interpreters, School Psychologists, General Educators, School Nurses, and other key team members supporting students. 5. Educational Consultation, Coaching, and Professional Development Provide ongoing consultation, coaching, and professional development to school personnel regarding hearing loss implications and communication strategies. Instruct and counsel students to foster self-advocacy, equipment independence, and socio-emotional skills. Act as a collaborative liaison between school teams, families, medical audiologists, cochlear implant clinics, and community agencies. Support Early Intervention teams in transitioning children from pre-school to school-age services. 6. Committee Participation, Programmatic Leadership, and Administrative Responsibilities Participate in intermediate unit, district, and regional committees or task forces (e.g., Deaf-Blind Resource Team, Assistive Technology, Early Intervention teams) to support program and organizational initiatives. Engage in continuous professional learning (PLCs) to stay current with emerging technology, evidence-based practices, and regulations. Maintain accurate, confidential student records, equipment maintenance logs, service tracking, and screening data in compliance with FERPA/HIPAA. Assist in evaluating technology needs, contributing to budget recommendations, and coordinating vendor contracts. Perform other related educational and technical duties as assigned by Student Services to support student access and program operations. 7. Educational and Instructional Strategies: Learning Environment Assure that the student is trained in the use of and has available all devices and technology necessary for learning. Recommend seating and other environmental accommodations. Assure the educational team fully understands the unique needs of the student with hearing impairment and the pertinent information related to all amplification systems. 8. Consultation: Interpret implications of the hearing impairment to all members of the school community Manage and maintain all equipment related to the support of hearing Impaired students. Provide training to professional staff, students and their families on the use of and maintenance of all equipment. Provide support to districts in insuring appropriate learning environments for students with hearing loss.
