This role entails a combination of hands-on technical work and strategic planning to ensure maximum network performance, availability, and security. Additionally, the Network Engineer will play a critical role in troubleshooting network issues, optimizing system functionality, and supporting the integration of advanced technologies, including cloud-based and hybrid solutions. If you are passionate about technology, thrive in a dynamic environment, and excel under pressure, we want to hear from you!Key Responsibilities:Plan and execute network designs, expansions, and enhancements to support business needsConfigure, install, and maintain network hardware (routers, switches, firewalls, etc.)Implement and manage network segmentation, VLANs, and IP address allocationProactively monitor network performance, uptime, and security using network monitoring toolsEnsure maximum network reliability and availability by identifying and resolving issues promptlyConduct regular performance tuning, adjustments, and maintenance to ensure the optimal operation of the networkImplement and maintain firewalls, VPNs, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and other security appliancesCollaborate with IT Security teams to ensure compliance with security policies, standards, and best practicesPerform regular security risk assessments and system penetration testingProvide Level 2/3 support for network-related incidents and escalate complex issues as neededPerform root cause analysis to prevent recurring technical incidentsDocument solutions, create standard operating procedures, and maintain network topology diagramsPartner with cross-functional IT teams to identify and deploy cybersecurity and networking solutionsSupport project teams with network infrastructure planning for new applications and servicesCollaborate with vendors and service providersQualificationsRequired Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field4 years of experience may replace a completed degree2 years of Proven experience as a Network Engineer, or in a similar roleProficiency in configuring, operating, and troubleshooting enterprise-grade networking equipment (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto)Strong knowledge of networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, BGP, OSPF, etc.)Hands-on experience with network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Wireshark, Nagios)Knowledge of firewalls, VPNs, and advanced network security practicesFamiliarity with cloud networking (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and hybrid network environmentsPreferred Qualifications:Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, JNCIS, or equivalentExperience implementing SD-WAN solutionsFamiliarity with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V)Knowledge of scripting/automation (e.g., Python, Shell scripts, Ansible) for network automationKnowledge of IT service management (ITSM) and experience working in ITIL-driven environmentsSAIC accepts applications on an ongoing basis and there is no deadline.
