Medical Director of Addiction Psychiatry

Henry Ford Health is seeking an experienced psychiatrist with expertise in substance use disorders to serve as Medical Director of Addiction Services. The Medical Director for Addiction Services provides strategic, clinical, operational, and physician leadership for a comprehensive continuum of addiction treatment services across a large integrated behavioral health service line. The role oversees medical quality, program development, physician engagement, and clinical integration across residential treatment, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient programs (IOP), outpatient addiction services, and a hospital-based integrated consultation service.This physician leader partners closely with behavioral health leadership, and community stakeholders to advance evidence-based addiction care, improve access, reduce stigma, and integrate substance use disorder treatment into the broader healthcare delivery system.The Medical Director champions a population health approach to addiction treatment while supporting innovation, workforce development, quality outcomes, and equitable access to care across the continuum.Strategic LeadershipDevelop and execute a system-wide vision for addiction medicine and substance use disorder (SUD) services aligned with organizational priorities.Lead growth and integration of addiction services across inpatient, ambulatory, residential, and community settings.Advance innovative models of care, including integrated behavioral health, collaborative care, telehealth, harm reduction, and recovery-oriented systems.Partner with health system leadership to identify opportunities for expansion, partnerships, and service optimization.Represent the health system in regional, state, and national addiction medicine initiatives.Clinical OversightProvide medical leadership and oversight for:Residential treatment facilitiesOutpatient servicesIntegrated addiction consultation services across acute care hospitalsEstablish and maintain evidence-based clinical standards, protocols, and pathways for treatment of substance use disorders and co-occurring psychiatric conditions.Promote excellence in medication treatment for addiction disorders.Ensure regulatory compliance with applicable federal, state, accreditation, and licensing standards.Support development of standardized withdrawal management and hospital-based addiction care protocols across the system.Promote addiction care as a core component of whole-person healthcare delivery.Quality, Safety & OutcomesEstablish measurable quality and performance metrics for addiction services.Monitor clinical outcomes, patient experience, safety indicators, access metrics, readmissions, and engagement in treatment.Support data-driven approaches to improving clinical and operational performance.Physician & Interdisciplinary LeadershipRecruit, mentor, and develop physicians and advanced practice providers for addiction services.Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and professional growth.Support interdisciplinary care models.Promote physician wellness and workforce sustainability.Education, Research & Community EngagementSupport education and training in addiction medicine across the health system.Collaborate with academic partners on research, quality initiatives, and workforce development.Advance community partnerships addressing prevention, recovery support, and behavioral health access.Promote stigma reduction and culturally responsive care throughout the organization.MD or DO degree from an accredited institutionCompletion of Psychiatry or Primary Care or Internal Medicine residency program in addition to completion of addiction psychiatry or addiction medicine fellowshipBoard certification in Psychiatry or Primary Care or Internal Medicine additional board certification in Addiction Psychiatry or Addiction Medicine.Current or eligible for medical licensure in the state of MichiganMinimum 5–7 years of progressive clinical leadership experienceDemonstrated experience leading addiction treatment programs across multiple levels of careExperience working within complex healthcare systems or academic medical centersReporting StructureThe Medical Director for addiction services reports to the senior executive, Medical Director, for behavioral health services.#PRAdditional InformationOrganization: Behavioral ServicesDepartment: Adult OP ProfShift: Day JobUnion Code: Not Applicable
