School Counselor Position

The Upper Darby School District is seeking applicants certified as a School Counselor for a full-time elementary vacancy.

Qualifications:

• PA Instructional Certificate - Elementary and Secondary School Counselor (PK-12)
• Out-of-state educators and anyone seeking an emergency certificate should review the guidelines set by the PA Department of Education. Pennsylvania Certification information is available at:
• BA and Master's degree required in appropriate major study
• Knowledge of content in certification area
• Classroom/group management skills
• Ability to use instructional materials and equipment
• Knowledge of child growth and development
• Instructional skills
• Planning Skills
• Human Relations Skills
• Strong communication and motivational skills.
• Ability to effectively communicate with, instruct, and work with students, staff and parents.

Job Goal:

To participate, as a member of the instructional staff, in directing the learning of elementary students. Such participation shall be directed toward attainment of general and specific objectives of the curricula of the school, and of the school district.

Major Function:

1. To provide individual and group counseling to assure that students will gain the optimum from the educational program
2. To help implement group testing program (K-5)
3. To support students, staff and parents of students so that each student can meet their educational goals.
4. To support students in course selections and to roster students following Upper Darby guidelines.
5. To provide an environment to facilitate personal and social growth
6. To initiate and implement a career educational program
7. To serve as a liaison between the home and school, teacher and pupil, school and community
8. To provide an effective system of referrals to other specialists within the school system
9. To serve as a Student Assistance Team member
