Fireline Paramedic (EMPF)

Cardinal seeks highly motivated and experienced paramedics with advanced knowledge and skills to help raise the standard of remote mobile medical care, one patient, one incident, and one community at a time. The application process and requirements are designed to find prospective employees who align with this mission. This is a nationwide position; the company will coordinate travel to and from incidents. Candidates do not need to live in a specific region, although Oregon and California medics with appropriate licenses are preferred. Pay Employees are paid biweekly during the fire season. Employees typically work 16‑hour days when deployed to an incident. Pay is hourly at the regular rate of $37.50 per hour for the first 8 hours worked per day and $56.25 per hour for the second 8 hours (overtime). This averages $750 per day; depending on experience, pay may be higher, up to $850 per day. Training pay is $20 per hour. Qualifications Required Education: Successful completion of an accredited Paramedic program. Preferred Experience Three years of relevant 911 EMS and/or clinical experience. Wildland fire medical experience or wildland firefighter experience (hand crew, hotshot, etc.). Required Certifications (must be valid and current) At least one state Paramedic license (CA or OR preferred; NREMT is also acceptable). BLS CPR ACLS ICS 100, 200, and 700 NWCG S‑130, S‑190, L‑180 Driver's License NWCG S‑130 or RT‑130 Field Day* NWCG Arduous Pack Test* *The company will provide the Field Day and pack test as long as all other online requirements are met. Additional Preferred Certifications NREMT PALS PHTLS, ITLS, or other trauma certification UTV operation Firefighter Type 1 Crew Boss WP‑C, FP‑C, CCP‑C, TP‑C Rope Rescue Technician/REMS Intermediate Wildland Fire Behavior (S‑290) Basic Air Operations (S‑270) Helicopter Crewmember (S‑271) Additional Requirements / Expectations Deployments last at least 16 days (14 days on incident plus 2 travel days) and can be up to 23 days (21 days on incident plus 2 travel days) before rest and recovery is required. Availability to fulfill these requirements is essential, and deployment may be announced within 24 hours. Lodging is typically tent camping; employees must be comfortable living and working outdoors for several weeks. Food is provided by the incident. If food is unavailable, a per diem will be issued. The company pays for and coordinates travel to and from all incidents. Duties and Responsibilities Conduct patient assessments. Provide basic and advanced emergency medical care to stabilize critically ill or injured patients before transport. Communicate with the supervising physician or hospital via radio or telephone, providing patient history and condition. Complete incident and patient paperwork accurately and efficiently. Respond to emergency calls to protect life and property. Combat, extinguish, and prevent fires. Drive emergency apparatus, including transport units, UTVs, trucks, ambulances, and other company vehicles. Perform related work as required under direct supervision. Other duties as assigned. Perform endotracheal intubation. Perform percutaneous cricothyrotomy (not surgical). Decompress pleural space of the chest cavity. Perform gastric decompression. Monitor and interpret patient oxygen and carbon dioxide levels. Pharmacological interventions including medication routes: IV, IO, IM, IN, SL, SQ. Insert an intraosseous (IO) or intravenous (IV) cannula. Enteral and parenteral administration of approved prescription medications. Perform cardiac care: cardioversion, manual defibrillation, and transcutaneous pacing. Perform and interpret 12‑lead Electrocardiogram (EKG). Evacuate and transport patients using purpose‑made and improvised litters. Appropriate triage of sick or injured patients to assist with evacuation planning. Working Conditions Work inside and outside environments. Work may involve noise requiring shouting to be heard above ambient levels. Work in extreme cold: temperatures typically below 32°F for more than one hour. Work in extreme heat: temperatures above 100°F for more than one hour. Work may involve wind, humidity, and other environmental variables. Physical Requirements Pass NWCG Arduous Work Capacity Test: 3‑mile walk with a 45‑lb pack over level terrain. May be required to hike extended distances while carrying pack and equipment. Must be able to sit and stand for up to 16 hours daily. Exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects. Reach above shoulder, work with body, bend at waist, kneel, crawl, climb stairs, and maneuver rough terrain. Work with arms extended, above shoulder level, stand, sit, and push.
