Distribution & Warehouse Operations Manager This position is onsite in Rochester, NY. Schedule: primarily 1st shift overseeing all Rochester warehouses. Systems: SAP. Responsibilities Strategy & Leadership Own end‑to‑end execution from receiving through shipment across three plant warehouses, 3PL overflow, and outbound transportation to NA DCs/direct‑ship customer. Build and lead high‑performing teams (including one Warehouse Supervisor), set standards of work, staff to plan, and develop cross‑training for flexibility. Establish a tiered management system (daily/weekly/monthly) with visible KPIs and structured problem solving. Warehouse Operations (3 Sites) Oversee receiving, put‑away, storage/slotting, kitting/staging, picking, packing, and shipping. Drive inventory accuracy via robust cycle counting, root cause analysis, and corrective actions. Optimize layout, slotting, MHE, and racking to improve flow, safety, and productivity. Ensure dock‑to‑stock and order cycle time targets are met. Maintain SOPs, work instructions, 5S, and visual management. Distribution, Transportation & Direct‑Ship Fulfillment Own transportation planning, tendering, appointment scheduling, and track‑and‑trace to NA DCs; manage exceptions proactively. Lead carrier performance (tender acceptance, OTD, claims, cost/stop), and negotiate rates in partnership with Procurement. Ensure on‑time, in‑full and compliant shipments to the direct‑ship customer, including EDI/ASN timeliness, label/pack compliance, and chargeback prevention. Cross‑Functional Integration Partner with Production Planning to align daily/weekly shipping plans, constraints, and recovery plans. Partner with Materials Management for inbound flow, GR/put‑away cadence, and to prevent stockouts/line‑downs. Partner with Customer Service/Order Management on order promising, prioritization, and customer compliance. Collaborate with Quality on nonconformance handling, holds, and disposition. Coordinate Finance on budgeting, cost controls, and freight audit & pay. Work with IT/Systems on master data, EDI, and system enhancements. Compliance, Safety & Risk Ensure OSHA and site safety compliance, strict PPE and MHE practices, and lead incident investigations. Maintain DOT/FMCSA compliance for carrier operations and ensure hazmat procedures are followed if relevant. Own business continuity and peak/seasonal scaling plans for logistics and warehousing. Continuous Improvement & Cost Management Lead CI initiatives (Lean, Kaizen, 5S, standard work, SMED for shipping/receiving). Improve cost per unit, freight cost per pound/unit, and labor productivity while protecting service and quality. Build and manage annual operating budgets (labor, MHE, supplies, freight) and capex (racking, MHE, automation). Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. 7–10+ years in warehousing, distribution, or logistics. Demonstrated success with transportation to DC networks and direct‑ship customer fulfillment. ERP/WMS/TMS proficiency (e.g., SAP IM/WM/EWM, TM or equivalents); strong data discipline and master data acumen. Working knowledge of OSHA, DOT/FMCSA, hazmat (as applicable). Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in relevant field. Multi‑site responsibility experience. Prior success with transportation to DC networks and direct‑ship customer fulfillment. ERP/WMS/TMS proficiency (e.g., SAP IM/WM/EWM, TM or equivalents); strong data discipline and master data acumen. Working knowledge of OSHA, DOT/FMCSA, hazmat (as applicable). Key Working Interactions Internal: Production Managers, Production Planners, Buyers, and Quality. External: N/A. Work Environment The work environment is representative of an office, manufacturing, laboratory, and warehouse setting and includes handling of viral and bacterial hazards, potentially hazardous chemicals, as well as infectious or potentially infectious bodily fluids, tissues and samples. Up to 75% of time at desk, standing or sitting extended periods. Flexible work hours to meet project deadlines. Physical Demands Position requires ability to lift up to 50 lbs. or more at least 35% of the day on a regular basis. Walking, standing, and climbing for long periods of time (up to 50% of the day) are routine. Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must operate a forklift approximately 15% of the time.
