Assistant Professor Job Duties: The Division of Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care seeks a physician scientist, MD or MD/PhD, in clinical, translational or basic science research to join our team. The physician scientist will be expected to engage in active collaborative research and build clinical and/or translational research in the division and obtain/maintain independent extramural funding.
The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring eligibility for employment in the United States on or before the effective date of the appointment. Assistant Professor Job Duties: The Division of Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care seeks a physician scientist, MD or MD/PhD, in clinical, translational or basic science research to join our team. The physician scientist will be expected to engage in active collaborative research and build clinical and/or translational research in the division and obtain/maintain independent extramural funding.
- This position is full or part time, 80%-100%
- This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location.
- This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations.
- The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.
- Applicants for this position will be considered for the titles: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor on the tenure track.
- 25-30%; Clinical expectations include direct patient care at UW Health locations, including ambulatory, inpatient and consult service attending.
- 70-75%; Academic expectations include protected time to develop a research program or teaching program and to engage in scholarly activities.
- Teaching medical students, residents, and fellows within the context of your clinical practice
- Proactively supporting efforts to improve diversity in clinical trial participants
- Participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.
- Board certification or board eligibility in Hematology/Oncology or Medical Oncology is required by the appointment start date.
- American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Certification required.
- Candidate is required to have a Wisconsin medical license by the appointment start date.
- Must be eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges by the appointment start date.
- Experience in an academic medical setting preferred.
- For an appointment as tenure track faculty, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines on the tenure track.
- Research and clinical responsibilities with interest in hematologic conditions.
- Experience in clinical, translational or basic science research, with a track record of successful publications in peer reviewed journals, strong written and verbal communication skills and evidence of excellence in teaching. The physician scientist will be expected to engage in active collaborative research and build clinical and/or translational research in the division, as well as obtain/maintain independent extramural funding. Through these efforts, the ability to enhance national recognition for our division and the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center.

- Your qualifications and experience in health services research, clinical or translational research, with a track record of successful publications in peer-reviewed journals, strong written and verbal communication skills, evidence of excellence in teaching and high potential to maintain and obtain research funding.
