NURSING DIRECTOR - EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT JOB OVERVIEW

Seeking an experienced Nursing Director, Emergency Department to provide strategic leadership, operational oversight, and clinical direction for a high-volume emergency services department. This leader will be responsible for ensuring exceptional patient care, driving quality and performance initiatives, managing departmental operations, and supporting the professional development of nursing leaders and staff.

REQUIREMENTS Education

• Master's Degree required (Nursing preferred)
• Candidates without a Master's degree must be willing to obtain a Master's in Nursing or Business Administration within five years

Experience

• 3 to 5 years of experience in an acute care hospital setting
• Minimum of 2 years of Emergency Department experience
• Previous leadership or management experience required

Licensure & Certifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) License in good standing
• Multi-State RN License required based on state of residence
• American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Certification
• CPI Certification

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Leadership

• Lead departmental operations and support organizational objectives
• Drive change management initiatives and foster a positive work environment
• Collaborate with executive leadership, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams

Administration

• Develop, implement, and evaluate departmental programs and services
• Monitor quality indicators and performance improvement initiatives
• Ensure operational goals are achieved within established timelines

Staff Development

• Mentor, coach, and support nursing leaders and staff
• Identify professional development opportunities
• Promote leadership growth and succession planning

Financial Management

• Oversee departmental budgets, staffing, expenses, and capital resources
• Monitor resource utilization and productivity
• Ensure fiscal accountability and effective budget management

Clinical Quality & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with accreditation, regulatory, and professional standards
• Monitor patient care outcomes and quality metrics
• Support a culture of patient safety and clinical excellence
• Ensure adherence to nursing practice standards and regulatory requirements
