About The Team The team is part of the Print Operations Business. About The Role You will direct the daily operation of a Dow Jones printing plant mechanical maintenance department, ensuring the pressroom, mailroom, and building equipment meet customer expectations for reproduction quality, content freshness, and productivity, while managing materials consumption cost-effectively. You will employ best performance practices, continuous improvement processes, staff scheduling, and effective staff development to achieve results. The role reports to the Technology Service Manager at the White Oak, Maryland location. You Will Communicate with the technology service manager, press room, mailroom, and other departments to ensure mechanical maintenance programs are effective, prioritize production quality requirements, and achieve exceptional quality. Direct machinist operations to assist pressroom/mailroom managers in continuously improving the Production Quality Score, integrating key performance measures such as reproduction quality, content freshness, productivity, and cost-effective materials consumption. Work with the technology services manager to ensure mechanical and electronic/software work is completed. Oversee preventive maintenance programs and accurate maintenance records to keep equipment operating condition. Maintain open communication with employees while emphasizing departmental goals and objectives. Administer local labor agreements and company policies in coordination with the technology services manager. Provide ongoing training and development across all job functions within the machinist or machinist/building department. Develop and deliver written performance reviews and development plans to the press staff annually, maintain accurate records, and make salary recommendations when applicable. Assist in hiring, training, developing, and maintaining a diverse, highly-experienced staff. Implement policies/practices ensuring compliance with local, state, federal laws and company policy regarding equal employment opportunity, affirmative action, safety, and environmental requirements. You Have Minimum five years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing maintenance operation, preferably in newspaper or commercial printing. Customer- and bottom-line-driven qualities with a strong record of cost-efficient results. Strong leadership, initiative, decision-making, staff development, and verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational and follow-up skills. Excellent knowledge of efficient and proactive maintenance programs in a continuous improvement environment. Ability to diagnose problems quickly, implement remedies, and make decisions in a deadline-driven environment. Strong mechanical and electrical or electronic expertise. Hands‑on and management experience overseeing Millwrights, Mechanics, Machine shops, or other industrial repair categories.
