Reports To: Associate Director of Supply Chain Transformation Location: Remote within the U.S. FLSA Status: Exempt FTE Status: 1FTE. This will be a time-limited role with an end date of September 30, 2027. Salary Range: $71,600 – $82,300 Posting Date: August 4, 2026 Closing Date: August 25, 2026 We are looking for an experienced project manager with an interest in sustainable, equitable and resilient food systems to join our U.S. team as we work to engage the healthcare sector to address climate change through food initiatives, including procurement and operational practices (e.g. tracking greenhouse gas related to food purchases, food waste reduction, community impacts).

The Food Commitments Manager is responsible for managing projects and activities related to the organization’s food systems priorities as part of the program’s supply chain transformation and climate mitigation & resilience strategies. The Manager will work alongside Health Care Without Harm and Practice Greenhealth staff, partners, and consultants to develop strategy, collaborate with others in the field, and provide management for key projects. In this way, the Manager contributes to the fulfillment of the organization’s ultimate aims of reducing health care greenhouse gas emissions, increasing the resilience of hospitals and communities alike, and driving health equity.PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:
Promote and support health care organizations in making commitments to use their food purchasing and food service operations to advance climate action through food initiatives. Contribute to the development and implementation of the organization’s strategy by managing health care commitment campaigns including the Coolfood pledge, the US Food Waste Pact and the values-based food purchasing commitment – inclusive of resource development, recruitment and support for participants. Create, update, and refine tools and resources (e.g. how-to guides, tool kits, checklists, webinars) to support successful food initiatives within health care organizations. Engage Practice Greenhealth partners in demonstrating, implementing, and accelerating best practices in food purchasing, menu and food service operations to support climate smart health care. Engage hospital food service and facility staff, health professionals, food supply chain stakeholders, community food system partners, and allied organizations to achieve strategic objectives. Contribute to design and execution of collective actions that leverage health care food commitments for food systems transformation addressing climate mitigation, resilience and equity. Collaborate with the Supply Chain Transformation and Climate Solutions Teams and contribute to a team culture that emphasizes quality, strategic prioritization, flexibility, collaboration, and continuous improvement.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Strategy and Planning – 20%: Develop annual workplans for projects related to the organization’s food strategy. Work closely with other Health Care Without Harm and Practice Greenhealth staff to develop and implement strategies and projects that support the advancement of the program’s objectives and the organization’s strategic plan. Support fund raising activities including maintenance of funder relationships for this work in coordination with other team members, the Program Coordination Team, and the Development Team. Cultivate the organization’s values in day-to-day work and interactions. Programmatic – 70%: Manage projects and activities to advance: 1) values-based food purchasing strategies and best practices in alignment with nationwide supply chain transformation goals; and 2) climate mitigation and resilience strategies related to food service purchasing and operations. Build and manage relationships with food supply chain stakeholders (e.g., group purchasing organizations, distributors, manufacturers) to model and shift the institutional procurement system and convene events and meetings on sustainable food procurement activities and successes. Build and manage relationships with external partners and coalitions to develop and implement programmatic goals. Advise Practice Greenhealth hospital partners on how to achieve goals, troubleshooting and finding solutions to barriers. Develop promotional and implementation materials for managed projects (presentations, resources, tools, etc.) in collaboration with Communications and Practice Greenhealth teams. Build and maintain productive working relationships with staff across HCWH, Practice Greenhealth, and Greenhealth Exchange. Contribute to the planning, facilitation, production, editing, and delivery of content and educational sessions for HCWH and Practice Greenhealth, including presentations, articles, blogs, press releases, newsletters, reports, virtual webinars, and the annual CleanMed conference. Contribute to and/or lead programmatic Initiative(s) to support the development of the organization’s subject matter expertise and advancement of its goals and contribute to and/or lead organization-wide efforts (e.g., Practice Greenhealth Partner experiences, CleanMed planning team(s), DEIB Team, Culture Celebration & Engagement (CCE) Committee, HCWH international network sub-groups). Support and participate in the evaluation of the Practice Greenhealth Environmental Excellence Awards, as needed. All other duties as requested and needed to meet organizational goals. Administrative – 10%: Coordinate with supervisors and administrative team to develop contracts and Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) related to projects that the Manager is leading; and manage contracts and partnerships within the scope of work. Participate in the annual budgeting and work planning processes, assisting with grant development and management to maintain a funding portfolio for this work, engaging partners, and contributing to semi-regular strategic planning processes. Maintain records of partner activity and contacts in the organizational database and file management systems.QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education: BA or BS. Combined experience/education as a substitute for minimum education. Minimum Experience: 3 years in project coordination in a nonprofit, government, consulting, or health care setting. Combined experience/education as a substitute for minimum experience. Combined experience/ education as a substitute considered. Preferred Experience: 4+ years Experience with institutional food purchasing, health care food service and/or addressing values of sustainability and equity in the food system. Experience working in a matrix organization or with multiple teams. Experience working in a virtual organization. Familiarity with nonprofit advocacy and/or membership-based organizations.JOB-SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

Project Management: Ability to work independently and stay organized while being held accountable to a team, with experience working collaboratively with others to track, measure, and achieve project goals. Ability to manage internal and external relationships to complete projects and deliverables with multiple stakeholders. Ability to develop and implement advocacy campaigns and educational content and organize events. Effective Communication: Good written communication skills. Ability to effectively write email communication and concise content. Good interpersonal skills to work across a virtual organization and with varied stakeholders. Ability to communicate value to stakeholders to engage them in our programs and initiatives. General Management: Ability to work with Microsoft Office products such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Google products such as Google Drive and Google Documents. Previous knowledge or ability to easily learn to use an internal communication tool like Slack. Additional Preferred: Experience with institutional food service purchasing and operations. Experience with health care operations.
