CNC Shape Machinist (2nd Shift)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced 2nd Shift CNC Shape Machinist to set up and operate conventional, special purpose, and CNC machines to fabricate metallic and non-metallic parts. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up gear shaping machinery, troubleshooting machining issues, maintaining high quality standards, and actively contributing to productivity improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Machining & Setup: Set up and operate gear shaping machinery to machine splines and gear teeth according to specifications. Load/unload parts, adjust tooling, size jaws, change chucking devices, and make offset adjustments.

• Quality Control: Read blueprints, sketches, work orders, and technical manuals to verify dimensions and tolerances. Ensure strict compliance with quality guidelines and maintain standard operating procedures.

• Equipment & Preventive Maintenance: Perform basic preventive maintenance on assigned machines. Monitor operations to detect malfunctions and make adjustments or partner with engineering and production teams to resolve issues.

• Operational Excellence: Work to optimize tool life, minimize setup downtime, and maintain assigned workspace cleanliness (6S standards).

• Teamwork & Training: Communicate vital hand-off details to subsequent shifts, assist in training new team members, and provide input on continuous improvement efforts.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Experience: 2+ years of manufacturing experience operating/setting up CNC machinery, specifically with blueprint reading and precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers).

• Technical Skills: Ability to make offset adjustments, manage tool geometry, and use computer interfaces.

• Communication: Proficiency in English (verbal and written) to read technical instructions and complete operational documentation.

• Physical Demands: Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and lift/carry up to 50 lbs in a manufacturing setting for extended periods.

• Work Authorization: Authorized to work in the United States.

Working Conditions

• Work is performed on-site at a climate-controlled manufacturing facility.

• Environment involves exposure to standard manufacturing hazards, including ambient machinery noise, oil, solvents, and dust.
