Pumping Station Crew Chief

Job Title A vacancy exists in the Department of Public Works and Transportation, Bureau of Utilities. Examples Of Duties Under general supervision, plans, coordinates, supervises, and participates in the operation, repair, maintenance, inspection, and installation of mechanical, electrical, and electronic components used in sewerage pumping stations and treatment plants. Essential job duties include: Planning, coordinating, supervising, and participating in the repair, maintenance, inspection, and installation of mechanical, electrical, and electronic components used in sewerage pumping stations, treatment plants, and related facilities. Interacting with and possessing a high knowledge of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Alarms (SCADA) and other mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment used in sewerage pumping stations, treatment plants, and related facilities. Preparing, reviewing, and assigning daily work orders to Pumping Station Electricians, Electricians, Pumping Station Mechanics, and others. Coordinating the work of the crew with the work of other crews, County agencies, and outside contractors. Providing technical assistance to crews. Operating tools and equipment. Supervising and participating in the routine maintenance and cleaning of stations. Responding to emergencies and alarms of equipment malfunctions at pumping stations. Operating sewerage pumping stations safely and in compliance with local, State, and Federal environmental regulations. Responding to Grinder Pump System issues and alarms. Preparing requisitions and procuring materials and equipment. Performing physical inventories of assets. Maintaining records of crew activities. Preparing reports. Participating in and conducting safety training exercises. Ensuring that crews follow established safety procedures. Examples of other duties include performing other related duties as required. Qualifications Required qualifications include eight years' experience in the repair, maintenance, and installation of mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment used in sewerage pumping stations, treatment plants, and related facilities. Related training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years for the required experience. Licenses and certificates are also required. Applicants are required to submit proof of education beyond high school to meet the minimum qualifications of the position. Proof of licenses, certifications, and/or education must be submitted with each application. Proof of degree equivalency is required for applicants who have obtained a degree outside the United States of America. Conditions Of Employment Employees in this classification may be assigned to a work shift which includes nights, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Employees in this classification are subject to call to duty in emergencies, and may be required to work overtime as needed. The work of this classification entails the performance of heavy physical labor including bending, stooping, lifting and carrying heavy objects, and the operation of vehicles, tools, and equipment. Work requires exposure to potentially hazardous conditions such as raw sewerage, confined space, adverse weather, and live electrical wires.
