Job Details: Job Location: SGCH New Tomorrow Resiliency Center - Brownsville, TX 78526, Position Type: Full Time, Education Level: High School, Job Shift: Day, Sunny Glen Children's Home Job Description Job Title: Youth Care Worker Department: Child Care Supervisor: Shift Leader FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Prepared by: Human Resources Department Summary The Youth Care Worker is responsible for the direct supervision of all unaccompanied children, including always maintaining line-of-sight. During their assigned shift, they always provide continuous direct line-of-sight supervision to their assigned children and ensure quality care for all children, as well as follow all contract agency policies. Assist children with their valuables, clothing, laundry, and appointments. All services shall be provided in accordance with established standards, principles, and ethics of the profession, applicable professional specialty organizations, and high-quality standards for which Sunny Glen Children’s Home is recognized. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provides direct supervision of children in care and always maintains line-of-sight. Provides oversight during recreation, mealtime, relaxing time, and play. Assists during the transition and movement of children from one activity to the next and from one physical location to another. Interacts with children in an appropriate manner, including playing games or during recreational time. Ensures that all contract agency policies and procedures are adhered to. Ensures quality care for all children residents and timely response to children’s needs. Ensures that all children’s needs are provided for such as protection of valuables, clothing distribution, laundry services, etc. Provide reports to the manager regarding children’s needs, activities, and documentation of time/location. Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy environment for the children by following recommended and legal medical standards of care. Alters assigned supervisor of any medical concerns in relation to the assigned children in care. Attending appropriate internal and external meetings. Able to evacuate at short notice to accompany residents possibly to a different city for several days at a time. Performs duties in a safe manner. Follows the corporate safety policy. Participates in and supports safety meetings, training, and goals. Identifies “close calls” and/or safety concerns to supervisory. Ensures the safety and security of all children and the operating conditions within the area of responsibility. Maintains a clean and orderly work area. Other duties may be assigned. Education and Experience: Minimum of a High School Diploma or its equivalent. At least 1 year’s experience with children in child welfare, medical, or social service settings is required. Language Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and the general public. Mathematical Skills Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Valid Texas Driver's License Have a record of tuberculosis screening showing the employee is free of contagious TB.
