Description
Our Director, Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) serves as the enterprise leader responsible for developing and executing a vision that advances a zero-incident culture across LDI. This role is responsible for creating, developing, and maintaining effective EHS programs and practices across the organization.
The Director defines, develops, and executes enterprise safety programs using a scorecard methodology, including training and OSHA compliance. The Director develops and implements strategies, policies, processes, systems, and tactics that support world-class safety performance across all manufacturing sites and LDI's corporate headquarters.
This position reports to the Vice President Operations and is based at our LDI headquarters in New Hope, Minnesota headquarters.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead all LDI employees and contractors to achieve zero safety incidents built on the principles of personal accountability, influencing behaviors, leading indicators, and a culture of active employee engagement.
- Facilitates and participates in the professional development of safety leaders throughout the organization through regular coaching, onboarding, training, and feedback.
- Coordinate with site leadership, site EHS managers, and safety committees to ensure that all aspects of the company's EHS results and programs work in concert and that effective leadership is exercised in each area.
- Advise plant and functional leadership teams, driving accountability for EHS performance and integrating safety into operational decision-making.
- Establish clear and measurable goals for safety performance; maintain detailed safety and incident data; analyze trends, provide regular reporting, and ensure action plans are implemented and executed.
- Lead and standardize processes for managing near misses, hazard identification, accident investigations, corrective actions, and reporting.
- Educate others on applicable workplace safety regulations, process safety requirements, security practices, and fire and explosion protection.
- Manage audit, inspection, and corrective action programs to ensure LDI facilities comply with all federal, state, and local workplace safety regulations and company standards. This includes leading and performing on-site and virtual audits and interfacing with external agencies, including OSHA, law enforcement, insurance representatives, and consultants.
- Lead enterprise risk assessment and emergency response initiatives. Create a high-performing culture of risk awareness and ensure risk assessments address employee, contractor, visitor, and facility and operational risks.
- Establish and maintain an Emergency Response Program (ERP) for all locations that provides effective preparedness and response capabilities across all locations.
- Establish and maintain a security program that protects people, products, and facilities from internal and external harm.
- Lead and maintain the enterprise Safety Training Program, including curriculum development, compliance training, and continuous improvement of training content.
- Lead third-party electronic platforms used for safety monitoring, compliance tracking, incident reporting, and related functions, including user administration, enhancements, training, and vendor management.
- Partners with Operations, HR, Engineering, and site leadership to proactively identify and mitigate workplace risks and improve overall safety performance.
- Other duties, as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Bachelor's degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Risk Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent education and experience.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) within manufacturing, including experience leading site-wide or cross-functional safety initiatives and driving measurable improvements in safety performance.
- Proven ability to develop and implement EHS strategies, foster a strong safety culture, and achieve regulatory compliance and business objectives.
- Applied knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety laws, regulations and standards.
- Ability to effectively lead teams, delegate responsibilities, and achieve key performance objectives.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including presentation and facilitation capabilities.
- Strong leadership, influence and persuasion, and change management skills.
- Proficient in MS Office applications.
- This role may be based at any LDI site and requires up to 50% domestic and international travel. Travel may include visits to manufacturing facilities throughout the United States and Mexico, with travel requirements varying based on the incumbent's primary work location.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Master's degree in Safety Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Risk Management, or a related field.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation.
- Experience building and leading enterprise safety cultures in multi-manufacturing locations and/or union and non-union workforces.
- Strong mentoring, coaching, and training, capabilities.
- Business acumen with strong analytical and statistical capabilities, including development and monitoring of key performance metrics.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The starting base salary range for this position is $154,309 - $192,886 per year. The compensation posted is the anticipated pay for the position at the time of the posting. We may pay above or below the posted amount based on several factors, including, but not limited to, education and/or certifications, skills, experience, or work location. Some positions may qualify for additional compensation in the form of bonuses.
