This position will provide targeted academic support for students experiencing learning gaps through Tier II and Tier III interventions while also strengthening services for English Learners and other students requiring supplemental instruction. The Interventionist will work collaboratively with classroom teachers and administrators to identify student needs, monitor academic progress, implement research based intervention strategies, and adjust instruction based on student performance data. The addition of this position will expand opportunities for individualized instruction through one on one support, small group interventions, and progress monitoring. These targeted instructional practices are essential for accelerating student growth, closing achievement gaps, and increasing overall academic proficiency. Furthermore, the position will enhance the school's Multi Tiered System of Supports by providing consistent intervention services that complement core classroom instruction and ensure students receive the level of support necessary for academic success. Funding an Interventionist will strengthen the school's capacity to provide timely, data driven instructional support, improve student outcomes, and advance the school's mission of academic excellence for every learner. Eligibility: Grade 6, 7 and 8 Student Support (Tier II and Tier III) # of Interventionist: 1 # of Students: 15 per class (total of 6 classes each semester = estimate of 180 students) Teacher/Student Ratio: 1:15 Duties and Responsibilities: The Interventionist provides research based instructional interventions aligned to the core curriculum for middle school students in both individual and small group settings. Using evidence based instructional strategies, the Interventionist adapts instruction to address students' diverse academic needs, learning styles, and interests while supporting their progress toward grade level proficiency. The Interventionist establishes clear learning objectives aligned with North Carolina Standard Course of Study expectations and implements targeted interventions designed to accelerate student achievement. Through ongoing assessment and progress monitoring, the Interventionist identifies student needs, analyzes data, and adjusts instruction to maximize student growth and close achievement gaps. The Interventionist fosters a positive, supportive, and engaging learning environment that encourages student success and maintains high expectations for all learners. They provide timely, constructive feedback, collaborate with classroom teachers to align intervention with core instruction, and use research based intervention programs and instructional resources with fidelity. The Interventionist maintains effective communication with students, families, teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders to support student achievement. They participate in collaborative problem solving, contribute to school improvement efforts, maintain accurate records of student progress, and uphold all district policies and professional standards. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Work individually or in small groups with students to assess current level of performance. Provide targeted instruction that meets the need of each individual student. Write lesson plans and analyze data under the direction of the Intervention Coordinator. Treat all children with dignity and respect. Attend all staff meetings and recommended training programs and conferences, including in-service training as may be required by the district. Operate and care for instructional equipment used in the classroom. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal. Follow directions given by head teacher or immediate supervisor. Student Management: Assist with the supervision of students outside the classroom such as field trips to assist with student supervision and safety, during play period, lunchroom activities, dismissal, etc. School/Community Relations: Maintain confidentiality about children, their families, and other employees outside the school. Handle sensitive and confidential information, documents, communications, incidents, etc., with discretion and in a conscientious manner. Cooperate and share professionally with other members of the staff. The Interventionist will promote: High academic/achievement for all children; A greater focus on teaching and learning; Flexibility to stimulate local initiatives coupled with responsibility for student performance; Improved linkages among schools, parents and communities. Assessment responsibilities: Conducts student assessments to identify those eligible for intervention services, to plan instruction, and/or to assist staff members in learning various assessment techniques. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required. Collaborates, as needed, with appropriate district/campus personnel regarding students who may need specialized interventions. Professional Development responsibilities: Strives to maintain and improve professional competence through professional development activities. Participates in discussions or activities focused on using research to improve reading Participates in staff development focused on delivery of reading intervention and assessment.
