Growing together.We are seeking a Senior AI/ML Software Engineer to build AI-powered data products and modern digital experiences across our analytics and healthcare platforms. This is a hands-on full-stack engineering role focused on developing intelligent applications for Compass reporting and the Quality & Patient Safety (QPS) platform. The individual will be responsible for building frontend experiences, backend services, AI/ML capabilities, and cloud-native data solutions that enable self-service analytics, operational insights, and quality improvement initiatives.You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.Primary Responsibilities:Design, develop, and deploy AI/ML and Generative AI solutions using LLMs, RAG, agents, and modern AI frameworksBuild scalable full-stack applications using React, TypeScript, JavaScript, Java/Spring Boot, Python, REST APIs, and SQLDevelop intuitive user experiences, dashboards, reporting solutions, and AI-enabled workflowsBuild and enhance self-service analytics, reporting, and data exploration capabilitiesDevelop applications supporting quality, patient safety, benchmarking, insights, action management, and workflow automationIntegrate applications with enterprise data platforms and cloud-native data ecosystemsDesign and implement microservices, APIs, data models, and event-driven architecturesApply engineering best practices including CI/CD, automated testing, observability, security, and performance optimizationCollaborate with product, analytics, business, and platform teams to deliver high-quality solutionsProvide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and contribute to architecture and technology decisionsYou'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in. Required Qualifications:Bachelor's in Computer Science, Engineering, AI/ML, Data Science, related field, or the equivalent experience6+ years of hands-on software engineering experience building enterprise-scale applications4+ years of hands-on experience in React, TypeScript, JavaScript, Java/Spring Boot, Python, REST APIs, and SQL1+ years of experience in designing, developing, and deploying AI/ML and Generative AI solutions in production environments2+ years of experience with LLMs, RAG architectures, vector databases, prompt engineering, AI agents, and AI application development4+ years of experience building cloud-native applications on Azure, AWS, or GCP3+ years of experience with modern data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, or Microsoft Fabric4+ years of experience with microservices, distributed systems, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and software engineering best practicesExcellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skillsPreferred Qualifications:Experience in healthcare, analytics, quality, patient safety, or reporting domainsExperience with Apache Superset, Power BI, embedded analytics, or self-service BI platformsExperience with LangChain, Semantic Kernel, OpenAI, Azure AI Services, or similar AI frameworksExperience leading technical initiatives and mentoring engineers*All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter PolicyPay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
