Learn more about the UNT System and how we live our values at Department Summary The UNT Dallas College of Law is an ABA Fully Approved public law school in downtown Dallas with a fulltime day division and a part-time evening division. The College of Laws goals are: (1) widening access to legal education for those who could be superb legal professionals but who cannot realistically access a legal education given factors including location, cost, and the current role of the LSAT in admission to and financing of law school; (2) providing an educational program focused on excellence in developing practice related competencies, through a curriculum mapped to those competencies and using best instructional practices, including multiple formative and summarise assessments throughout, engaged class design, and a spectrum of experiential education; (3) creating opportunity for our students by keeping tuition and debt low and producing graduates with high value and ability in multiple segments of the market for legal services; (4) becoming a national leader in advancing understanding of best legal education practices, of professional formation, and of the relationship between legal education and the evolving practice and business of law; (5) improving access to justice for underserved legal needs; and (6) serving as a valuable partner in civic engagement with the City of Dallas and the North Texas region. Position Overview The UNT Dallas College of Law welcomes applications from experienced lawyers, judges, and law school instructors who are interested serving as Assistant Professor of Law. This is a full-time, tenure-track position. The successful candidate will be expected to achieve excellence in teaching, research, and service, and to assist in further development of the UNT Dallas College of Law program. The appointment will be as an entry level tenure-track Assistant Professor to teach twelve credit hours per academic year beginning with the 2027-2028 academic year. The College of Law is interested in persons with all substantive legal interests, but particularly is interested in persons able to teach required first year courses and upper-level electives. UNT Dallas is bridging the gap between education and workforce readiness through our innovative Classroom to Career initiative. This initiative integrates experiential learning-such as internships, service learning, and project-based collaborations-with partners in education, health, and industry-into every student's academic journey. By emphasizing high-impact practices, we prepare students with both disciplinary expertise and the essential skills employers value: communication, adaptability, teamwork, and leadership. Our graduates don't just earn degrees; they launch purposeful, career-ready futures. EXPECTATIONS Because the educational program will strive for excellence in developing practice related competencies, faculty members will be expected to follow the instructional and curricular practices of the College of Law, including use of the Canvas Learning Management System, learning outcomes, multiple assessments, and research and writing modules within a course, as appropriate, with support from other faculty as well as research librarians. The College of Law will support faculty in these areas by providing training, course design expertise, and learning management system support. Minimum Qualifications J.D. degree Superb academic and professional qualifications. Practice experience that is sufficiently extensive and high quality to be a foundation for teaching in the College of Laws educational program. Demonstrated ability to achieve excellence in teaching and in guiding and mentoring as to professional formation of students. Commitment to the goals of the College of Law and its curricular and instructional methods and goals. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. Skill in editing documents for correct grammar Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Job Duties Plan, evaluate, and deliver engaging and effective legal courses to the student population. Lead classroom discussions, provide guidance, and maintain office hours to support student learning. Assign and grade student work, and provide feedback on assignments. Investigate legal issues, develop new theories, and contribute to the intellectual development of the legal field. Serve on faculty and university committees to contribute to the governance and supervision of institutional activities. Attend faculty meetings, collaborate with colleagues, and participate in university initiatives and public service activities. Physical Requirements Communicating with others to exchange information. Lifting and Moving objects up to 20 pounds. Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing. Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
