Engineer

BASIC PURPOSE

Carry a portable radio, staying in constant communication with the central base station, respond to all engineering service calls, giving priority to guest requests, and maintain hotel equipment in a efficient, safe, accident-free manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Respond to and handle guest requests in a courteous, efficient, safe manner. Perform preventive maintenance and necessary repairs on all hotel equipment, including kitchen, laundry, boiler, plumbing, pool, HVAC, electrical and guest rooms. Monitor and maintain all engineering functions when full engineering staff is not available (i.e weekends and evenings). Respond to all emergency situations including fire alarms, bomb threats, disasters and power failures; notify the appropriate authorities. Make rounds of the hotel property to ensure everything is in working order. Clean and maintain all equipment and work areas. Complete maintenance requests, take equipment and meter readings and maintain log to notify the next shift. Document all parts used and parts needed to be purchased. Handle elevator breakdowns. Report any unsafe conditions to the Director of Engineering. Set up machine and make signs. Assist with maintenance of parking lot and snow removal as needed. Make keys as requested. Comply with all company policies and procedures. Other tasks as assigned. Engineer I Ability to paint, wallpaper, and make cosmetic repairs. Some skills in wood working, doors, lock, light fixtures, hardware, flooring, and ceilings. Fundamental understanding and ability to work with electrical devices, such as outlets and switches. Fundamental understanding and ability to work on plumbing fixtures, toilets, showers, and piping. Fundamental understanding of building systems, HVAC, and life safety equipment. Ability to use basic hand and power tools properly and safely. Engineer II Strong ability to paint, wallpaper, and make cosmetic repairs. Fundamental skills in wood working, doors, lock, light fixtures, hardware, flooring, and ceilings. Strong understanding and ability to work with electrical devices, such as outlets and switches. Strong understanding and ability to work on plumbing fixtures, toilets, showers, and piping. Strong understanding of building systems, HVAC, and life safety equipment. Ability to use common hand and power tools properly and safely. Ability to troubleshoot basic property repairs. Understand and use precise specifications and measurements. Use arithmetic to measure, compute amount of materials to use, and to inspect product to be sure it conforms to requirements. Engineer III Strong ability to paint, wallpaper, and make cosmetic repairs. Strong skills in wood working, doors, lock, light fixtures, hardware, flooring, and ceilings. Advanced understanding and ability to work with electrical devices, such as outlets and switches. Advanced understanding and ability to work on plumbing fixtures, toilets, showers, and piping. Advanced understanding of building systems, HVAC, and life safety equipment. Advanced ability to use most hand and power tools properly and safely. Ability to troubleshoot property repairs. Understand and use precise specifications and measurements. Use arithmetic to measure, compute amount of materials to use, and to inspect product to be sure it conforms to requirements. Knowledge and Skills Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent trade school, special courses in building maintenance and construction. Skills and Abilities Ability to maintain and repair HVAC, electrical, plumbing equipment and perform carpentry, repair work, construction and renovation work. May require ability to drive pick-up truck and snow removal equipment. Lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying required frequently to respond to requests for service and repairs anywhere in hotel or in parking lot. Frequent bending and kneeling required to perform inspections and repairs. Standing, climbing stairs, climbing ladders, driving development. To hear portable radio, fire alarms, machinery, guests. Inspect, maintain equipment. Must respond on portable radio to base station, guests. Maintain logs and records. Some use of paint, pool chemicals, oil, pesticides.
