About the Role Assists in the organization and daily function of the operating room in accordance with established federal, state and accreditation standards and facility policies and procedures. Assists the nurses and physicians in delivering the highest standard of patient care available. Responsibilities Assists in the organization and daily function of the operating room in accordance with established federal, state and accreditation standards and facility policies and procedures. Assists the nurses and physicians in delivering the highest standard of patient care available. Assesses patient and significant others understanding of disease process and need for surgical intervention. Troubleshoots equipment problems and reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate personnel. Verbalizes knowledge of risks and complications and demonstrates awareness of protocol for malfunctioning equipment and repair. Anticipates the need for equipment and supplies based on surgeon preference and selects them in an organized, cost‑effective, and timely manner. Assures all equipment is functioning before use and removes any malfunctioning equipment. Demonstrates skill in appropriate use of instruments and equipment and operates mechanical, electrical and air‑powered equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions. Ensures emergency equipment and supplies are available at all times. Keeps surgical suites clean, tidy, free of soiled equipment and supplies, and properly stocked. Follows established policies and procedures for surgical counts and initiates corrective actions when counts are incorrect. Creates and maintains a sterile field using principles of aseptic practice and initiates corrective action when breaks in technique occur. Wears appropriate attire in restricted area and adheres to recommended traffic patterns. Handles instrumentation safely, maintains knowledge of sterile processing standards and practices, and assists with inventory management. Assists with OR turnover and preparation of sterile supplies (e.g., opening, case pulling). Familiar with insurance procedures, verifies insurance information when scheduling procedures, processes cash receipts, and knows which plans/procedures require vouchers and/or preauthorization. Qualifications High School Diploma. BLS certification required. Operating room experience, minimum two years. Ambulatory surgery center experience. Knowledge of regulatory standards. Experience with Electronic Medical Records. Reasoning ability to solve practical problems and interpret various instructions. Computer skills with thorough knowledge of computer information systems. Physical Demands Requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, and talking or hearing. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Work Environment Professional office environment; routine use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Compensation $33.00–$40.00 per hour; base pay determined by experience, education, skills and work location.
