Extruder Operator

Job Title: Extruder Operator Job Description

As an Extruder Operator, you will efficiently control the operation of the extrusion line from raw material input to finished product. You will work on the day shift from 6 am to 6 pm, with initial training from 6 am to 4 pm, Monday through Thursday for two weeks.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a clean and orderly work area/warehouse.

• Ensure a safe working environment by following all company safety policies and procedures, and report unsafe conditions and incidents.

• Uphold the company’s quality standards.

• Operate the extrusion line, including machine set-up, films and resins, color concentrates, and additives.

• Manage production speeds, start and stop functions, changeover, downtimes, die and screw teardown, and other line-specific functions.

• Maintain extruded product specifications such as gauge, length, width, bond strength, and color.

• Identify surface defects and perform quality control tests.

• Transfer data to the daily production log book and quality control documents.

• Follow the production schedule and other related documents to meet customer orders.

• Communicate line malfunctions promptly to minimize production downtime.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in machine operation, extrusion, and production processes.

• General labor skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, or 1-2 years of experience.

• Forklift certification is a plus.

• Ability to read production tickets.

• Capability to work at an accelerated pace.

• Proficiency in math calculations and measuring using measuring tape or other instruments.

• Effective communication skills both verbally and in writing.

• Computer literacy.

• Commitment to continuous improvement.

• Physical ability to lift 50 pounds, bend, stretch, or stand for extended periods of time.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.50/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
