SOC Manager Role and ResponsibilitiesA SOC Manager is responsible for managing the SOC team, which monitors, detects, and responds to cybersecurity threats 24/7Key responsibilities include:Team Leadership: Hiring, mentoring, and training SOC analysts and engineers, establishing career paths, and preventing burnout in high-stress rolesIncident Response: Acting as incident commander during security events, coordinating containment, removal, and recovery, and aligning with frameworksSecurity Strategy: Developing and implementing security policies, procedures, and overall cybersecurity strategy aligned with business objectivesTool and Technology Management: Overseeing SOC tools, cloud security platforms, and automated detection systems to improve efficiency and threat responseStakeholder Communication: Translating complex technical security issues into actionable insights for executives and other departmentsSkills and QualificationsSuccessful SOC Managers combine technical expertise with leadership and communication skills:Technical Proficiency: Knowledge of cybersecurity technologies, threat landscapes, cloud security, and incident response protocolsLeadership Skills: Ability to inspire teams, manage conflicts, and make strategic decisionsAnalytical Skills: Capability to analyze incidents, identify root causes, and implement preventive measuresWith over 80 years of protecting the things that matter, we’ve seen more than most.
