Relief Anesthesia Technician (Per-Diem/Relief, 8-Hour Rotating Shifts)

Overview Position: Anesthesia Technician – part‑time, rotating, 08‑hour shifts. Location: Stanford Health Care, Redwood City, CA. What You Will Do Employees must abide by all Joint Commission requirements, including sensitivity to cultural diversity, patient care, patient rights, ethical treatment, safety and security of physical environments, emergency management, teamwork, respect for others, ongoing education, communication and adherence to safety and quality programs, compliance with National Patient Safety Goals, and licensure and health screenings. Perform all duties in accordance with the Service Standards of the Hospital(s). Actively participate in quality control, quality assurance and preventative‑maintenance activities. Assist in evaluating new products by providing feedback regarding their use. Assist with record keeping and patient charges. Ensure replacement or repair of malfunctioning equipment. Attend and participate in equipment and supply in‑services, evaluations and staff meetings. Contribute positively to the unit and department; support team culture. Correctly check, set up and verify all equipment and supplies utilized by the Department of Anesthesia, including anesthesia machines, monitors, invasive lines, non‑controlled pharmaceuticals and other requested tasks. Identify and share recommendations for containing costs in the assigned area. Maintain professional relationships with staff, managers, physicians, patients and their families. Maintain and service equipment by cleaning, sterilizing, assembling, testing, troubleshooting, requisitioning and receiving inspections and maintenance. Assist the anesthesia provider with intra‑operative fluid management, including volume resuscitation. Participate in the monitoring and documentation of quality‑improvement issues. Participate on unit, department or hospital committees as requested. Perform housekeeping/stocking duties to maintain a clean, safe work environment. Practice aseptic techniques according to established infection‑control policies. Prepare and maintain patient monitoring devices and anesthesia delivery systems before, during and after anesthesia. Prepare and operate auto‑transfusion equipment. Use the problem‑solving process to identify, prevent or resolve inter‑ or intra‑departmental problems. Properly dispose of non‑controlled pharmaceuticals. Conduct self‑assessment of skill level and seek resources to learn new skills, equipment or procedures to maintain currency in the position. Support administrative decisions and ensure implementation and compliance with all department, institutional and regulatory policies and procedures. Work with the clinical educator to orient new staff members and students to the role of anesthesia technician as requested. Education Qualifications High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Experience Qualifications One (1) year of directly related work experience. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to be flexible in assignments. Ability to learn and evaluate new equipment and procedures quickly. Ability to provide appropriate care based on the needs of the individual, considering age, culture, and developmental issues. Ability to respond flexibly to unusual and emergent situations, remaining calm under stress and emergency conditions. Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English effectively at a level appropriate for the job. Ability to work independently and prioritize duties during times of stress. Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. Knowledge of location, operation, calibration, and maintenance of anesthesia equipment and supplies. Knowledge of operating‑room procedures, aseptic techniques, and infection‑control policies. Licenses and Certifications BLS – Basic Life Support. Compensation Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $43.51 – $48.67 per hour. Salary will be determined based on internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
