A leading music streaming company seeks a Data Center Engineer 1 to support large-scale data center infrastructure provisioning, equipment deployment, troubleshooting, operations, and site reliability for consumer online services.

Data Center Engineer 1 Responsibilities:

• Perform data center infrastructure provisioning and server/network equipment deployments, including racking, cabling, and provisioning large inventories of servers, switches, PDUs, and consoles; support new build-outs and daily data center operations.
• Perform initial system configurations according to standard operating procedures, including BIOS configuration, PXE OS installations, and DNS updates; troubleshoot and remediate hardware issues, document findings, and provide detailed root cause analysis reports.
• Assist with decommissioning and retirement of aging hardware, provision replacement equipment, process RMA tickets with vendors, and maintain an up-to-date inventory of hardware across data center locations.
• Implement data center best practices, including appropriate cabling and power balancing; document and track assigned data center issues and tasks through the internal ticketing system.
• Work collaboratively with data center operations engineers, prioritize and multitask under shifting deadlines, participate in a 24x7x365 on-call rotation, and safely lift and carry equipment weighing up to 75 pounds on a regular basis.

Data Center Engineer 1 Qualifications:

• 4+ years of data center-related experience.
• 2+ years of experience in an enterprise-scale data center environment.
• BA/BS in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• IT certifications such as A+, Server+, RHCSA, or CCNA are preferred.
• Experience provisioning data center infrastructure and deploying server/network equipment.
• Understanding of x86 server hardware architecture and subsystems for configuration, triage, and certification in large-scale server environments.
• Experience with BIOS/BMC configuration on x86 server hardware.
• Familiarity with MMF, SMF, LC/MTP, and CAT6 cabling standards and differences.
• Knowledge of Linux and the network stack.
• Familiarity with version control systems such as Bitbucket and Git.
• Knowledge of data center best practices, including cabling and power balancing.
• Basic proficiency in Bash and a basic understanding of subnetting, DHCP relays, load balancing, and ARP.
• Working knowledge of package management tools such as APT and RPM.
• Ability to safely and reliably lift and carry equipment weighing up to 75 pounds on a regular basis.

Shift:

• Ability and willingness to travel up to 15% as required to data center locations in Chicago, Illinois, Santa Clara, California, and other locations around the country.
