SALARY RANGE: BU09 | SR20 SALARY RATE: $66,081.60 (Annual Salary) based on the FTE JOB DUTIES: This position is located in the Obstetrics/Nursery department of Kaua'i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH) of the Hawai'i Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) Kaua'i Region, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai'i. HHSC Kaua'i Region encompasses KVMH and Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), both critical access hospitals; The Kaua'i Region Clinics; and its affiliates. The OB / Nursery unit delivers comprehensive nursing care encompassing prenatal care, management of pregnancy disorders and complications, labor, delivery, and the care of newborns and their mothers. The Registered Professional Nurse (RPN) III (OB / Nursery) is responsible for providing comprehensive acute nursing care and treatment services on a 24-hour basis, with a focus on age-specific nursing care for newborns, adults, and adolescents within the unit. When the department has no patients, the incumbent is cross-trained to support other nursing departments, such as Medical-Surgical Acute, Long Term Care, etc., as needed. This position involves a combination of 12- and 8-hour shifts, including extended hours and work on weekends and holidays, to meet operational needs and patient care demands. This position reports to the Registered Professional Nurse V (Unit Nurse Manager), position number 56149, or their designee. THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week. EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing; a Bachelor's Degree in nursing from an accredited college or university is highly desirable. LICENSE REQUIRED: Possession of an active license to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Hawai'i; possession of a State of Hawai'i type #3 driver's license is preferred. NURSING EXPERIENCE: Six (6) months of professional nursing work experience. SELECT CERTIFICATION: Of the six (6) months of professional nursing experience, six (6) months must have been in labor and delivery, antepartum and postpartum, and fetal monitoring. CERTIFICATIONS:
SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED: Possession of a master's degree from an accredited college or university school of nursing may be substituted for one year of nursing experience. QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE: Possession of the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for a position. - Valid, current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) in Health Care Provider (adult, child, and infant) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) at the time of employment.
- Required to obtain Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP); Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) from AHA; and Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring (IFM/AFM) within six (6) months of employment.
- Valid, current certifications from the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Labs, and Emotional Support (STABLE), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from AHA are highly recommended.
- Knowledge of: Nursing theory and practice; biological, physical, social and medicinal sciences as related to nursing theory and practice; nursing techniques and procedures; nursing literature and current trends and developments in nursing; nursing techniques and procedures.
- Ability to: Apply nursing theory and practice to planning and giving nursing care; recognize, interpret and evaluate symptoms of patient's condition and take appropriate action; work effectively and cooperatively with patients, family members, medical staff and employees; prepare comprehensive nursing diagnosis and nursing care plans; and plan and direct the work of lower level registered nurses and nursing assistants.
- Additional Skills: Familiarity with standards, regulations, requirements of Medicare, Medicaid, The Joint Commission, procedures used in surveillance and control of hospital infections desired.
