Lead Agricultural Equipment Mechanic

A food manufacturing operation is hiring a Lead Agricultural Equipment Mechanic to oversee agricultural shop operations, direct daily mechanic work, support harvest equipment uptime, and keep product moving steadily to the plant during pack season. This role combines hands-on mechanical repair with lead responsibility for shop workflow, parts, repair records, vendors, safety audits, and harvest support.

The best fit is a mechanic-leader with agricultural, heavy equipment, diesel, fleet, industrial maintenance, or harvest equipment experience who can direct other mechanics while still jumping into repairs when the operation needs help.

Location: Cumberland, WI

Schedule:

During pack season, early July through late Sep/early October, 6-7 days per week, 12-14 hours per day, day shift.

Off pack, early October through early July, Monday through Thursday, 5:30 AM-4:00 PM.

Work Setting: Onsite

Role Type: Direct hire

Pay Rate: $38-$42/hr, based on experience

Responsibilities

• Oversee agricultural shop operations and daily mechanic workflow.
• Direct agricultural mechanics and help prioritize repairs during harvest and off-season maintenance cycles.
• Maintain parts inventory and order parts as needed.
• Schedule harvest equipment repairs and maintain repair records.
• Maintain service trucks and crew fleet vehicles.
• Build and maintain vendor relationships.
• Fill in for full-time agricultural mechanics when needed.
• Travel with the harvest crew when needed.
• Monitor product flow during harvesting to help ensure uninterrupted flow to the plants.
• Relieve harvest operators when necessary.
• Maintain an even, constant, and sufficient flow of quality product during harvest season.
• Complete weekly and monthly safety audits.
• Enforce GMP, safety rules, and company procedures.
• Assist with repairs and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years of related mechanical experience.
• 1-3 years of supervisory, lead, or work-direction experience.
• Valid driver's license required.
• CDL is helpful but not required.
• Ability to use hand tools and power tools; must have own hand tools.
• Strong reliability, dependability, and communication skills.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
• Ability to work extended harvest-season hours.

Preferred Qualifications

• Agricultural equipment, harvest equipment, diesel, heavy equipment, or industrial maintenance leadership experience.
• Welding and fabrication skills.
• Experience managing parts, vendors, repair records, service trucks, or fleet vehicles.
• Experience coaching or directing mechanics, seasonal employees, or harvest support crews.
• Strong practical knowledge of hydraulics, diesel systems, mechanical drives, conveyors, pumps, and field repairs.
