The Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to becoming a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use. Job Description As a Machinist/ Fabricator Project Maintenance Technician, your primary responsibilities will include metal cutting, fabrication, MIG/TIG welding of steel, and aluminum. You will work with blueprints and be responsible for the rigging and moving of heavy equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality. Key Responsibilities Perform metal cutting and fabrication tasks according to specifications and blueprints. Conduct MIG/TIG welding on steel and aluminum welding. Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to determine project requirements. Operate and maintain welding, cutting, and fabrication equipment. Ensure all welds meet quality standards and specifications. Operate manual milling machines and lathes to create precision parts and components. Use measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to ensure precision and accuracy. Utilize rigging techniques to safely move and position heavy equipment and materials. Operate a variety of hand and power tools, including grinders, saws, and drills. Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring shop cleanliness at all times. Collaborate with team members to meet project deadlines and ensure efficient workflow. Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment. Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on machinery and equipment. Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used. Additional responsibilities include occasional supporting of breakdown team and PM team. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or experience in welding, fabrication, or a related field preferred. Minimum 5 years of experience in welding, fabrication, and machining. Proficiency in MIG and TIG welding of steel; experience in aluminum welding is preferred. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings. Knowledge of measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges. Strong knowledge of rigging techniques and experience in moving heavy equipment. Familiarity with a variety of welding, cutting, and fabrication equipment. Operate manual milling machines and lathes to create precision parts and components. Proficiency in using hand and power tools, including grinders, saws, and drills. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team. Good communication skills and the ability to follow instructions. Willingness to work with various teams including engineering, division, and outside contractors. Physical ability to perform manual labor, lift heavy objects, and work in various positions. Commitment to maintaining a clean and organized work environment. Working Conditions Good working conditions. Heavy lifting in rare instances typically assisted. Majority of time light lifting is involved. Some exposure to elements of dirt, dust, fumes, heat, cold, and noise, but none to the extent of being disagreeable. This position does not support immigration sponsorship. The range for this position is $31.50 hourly rate - $35.75 hourly rate. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
