Job Description
Registered Nurse (RN) - Labor and Delivery

Summary

The Registered Nurse, in a labor and delivery clinical setting, practices independently and demonstrates a keen awareness of all relevant aspects of patient care. This role involves providing both routine and complex care, focusing on long-range goals and plans. The nurse continues to develop skills to manage clinical contingencies and makes appropriate assignments while delegating tasks to other care providers to effectively manage the clinical situation.

Responsibilities

Meets expectations consistent with applicable competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
Provides nursing care in accordance with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients.
Addresses the increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and their families according to their level of practice.
Administers medications and treatments per established protocols; monitors for side effects and the effectiveness of prescribed treatments.
Documents patient history, symptoms, medications, and provided care accurately.
Assesses learning needs and provides education to patients, family members, and caregivers; identifies issues and resources.

Job Requirements

Education/Skills

Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is preferred.

Experience

1 year of experience in the related nursing specialty is preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

Current certification required from one of the following: AWHONN Intermediate FHM or NCC Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM).
Current BLS certification required (American Heart Association only).
Current NRP certification required.
Current ACLS certification required (American Heart Association only).
RN License in the state of TX or compact.

Position Requirements

Education/Skills

All newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire.
New hires will be precepted by a designated trained staff member, and initial onboarding requirements will be validated through successful completion of designated organizational entry competency validation and a Perinatal Services-specific competency validation.
Completion of all annual competency verification requirements is expected.

Experience

A Perinatal RN Residency or recent experience in a perinatal setting is preferred.
