Job Description
Why Join Modern Eyes?
At Modern Eyes, great eye care starts with kindness, trust, and truly listening. We are a friendly, local eyecare practice combining personalized care, modern technology, thoughtful communication, and independent eyewear. Our team is committed to helping every patient feel welcome and supported.
While our patients come first, our team is a very close second. You’ll be part of a supportive workplace built on compassion, curiosity, and collaboration. We value long-term growth with performance-based increases that recognize reliability, skill development, and teamwork.
Position Summary
Working with the Optometrist and patient care team, the Optician guides patients from prescription to finished eyewear, including frame and lens selection, order management, dispensing, repairs, and troubleshooting.
Modern Eyes is not a high-pressure sales environment. We focus on education, trust, accuracy, and personalized product recommendations. We are looking for an experienced optician with a current Massachusetts license, strong communication skills, attention to detail, and pride in their work. This is a full-time, 40-hours/week position with a Tuesday-Saturday schedule.
Who Thrives in This Role
Someone who is compassionate, detail-oriented, comfortable discussing eyewear, insurance, and fees, eager to learn, quick to problem-solve, calm in a busy setting, and able to guide patients toward frames and lenses they truly love while working as part of a team.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Welcome patients warmly and professionally
- Assist with frame and lens selection, accurate measurements, prescription verification, and patient education
- Manage optical orders from entry through tracking, communication, receiving, quality control, and follow-up
- Dispense, adjust, repair, and troubleshoot eyewear
- Review fees, insurance benefits, balances, payments, and documentation clearly and accurately
- Maintain an organized optical area, frame board, and lab area
- Manage frames inventory, contact lenses, and lab supplies
- Use EMR systems, ordering platforms, office software, and phones accurately
- Assist with contact lens insertion/removal and hygiene training
- Communicate with labs, vendors, and insurance plans
- Support patient flow and basic clinical or administrative tasks as needed
Experience & Employment Requirements
- Current Massachusetts optician's license
- Experience with frame/lens selection, dispensing, adjustments, and repairs
- Strong communication, patient care, and teamwork skills
- Attention to detail and accurate documentation
- Comfort using technology
- Authorization to work in the United States
- Ability to work full-time, in-person at our practice location
- Availability to work a Tuesday-Saturday schedule
Preferred:
- Independent eyewear, premium lenses, specialty lens designs, and contact lens training experience
- Familiarity with ophthalmic terminology, insurance, and claims
- Experience with EMR and ordering platforms
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite
Physical Requirements
This role requires, with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Using optical equipment, computers, phones, EMR systems, and ordering platforms
- Performing close visual tasks, measurements, order review, and documentation
- Using fine motor skills for eyewear measurements, adjustments, and repairs
- Moving throughout the office to assist patients and access supplies and equipment
- Occasionally lifting or moving items up to 25 pounds
- Remaining attentive, patient, and professional in a busy setting
