Counsel (Contract)

Major League Baseball is looking for a Counsel (Contract) in the Business & Technology Legal department to oversee the legal aspects of a wide range of Major League and Minor League Baseball’s domestic and international commercial activities, including licensing, products, national and international events like the World Series and the World Baseball Classic, marketing, advertising, sponsorship, ticketing, video and mobile games and gaming, technology infrastructure, software licensing, consumer protection, data privacy, and information security.ResponsibilitiesNegotiate and structure commercial agreements based on the needs of MLB’s and MiLB’s business and operational units (e.g. information security, technology, product, business development, events, ticketing, e-commerce, content, social media, marketing, advertising and sponsorship, licensing, human resources, public relations, and finance)Communicate regularly with Major League and Minor League Clubs regarding league agreements related to business operations and technologyProvide general in-house legal services to and advise MLB’s and MiLB’s business and operational unitsProvide oversight, strategy and direction to outside counselQualifications & SkillsMember of New York State Bar in good standingTop academic credentials and referencesMinimum of four (4) years as a practicing lawyer, preferably with at least several years’ experience in a well-regarded law firmSignificant transactional experience negotiating and structuring major licensing and other commercial agreementsExcellent communication skills; strong ability to build and maintain relationshipsMust work effectively in a fast-paced environment, interacting regularly with senior managementMust be able to simultaneously accomplish multiple quantitatively and qualitatively challenging tasksPay Range: $7,100 - $7,900 biweeklyThe actual offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your work experience, education, skills, and any other factors MLB considers relevant to the hiring decision.Note: This role is temporary and not eligible for standard full-time employee benefits and bonuses.Why MLB?Major League Baseball (MLB) is the most historic of the major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada.
