Legal Counsel

Quartr is the intelligence layer financial AI runs on. Our structured, real-time IR data is trusted by leading financial institutions and technology companies worldwide. We're headquartered in Stockholm, with offices in New York, Dublin and Gothenburg, and a team of 150+ people, more than 50 of them in our commercial organisation.

We're hiring our first Legal Counsel in New York: the person who owns legal, across a Swedish parent company and US and Irish subsidiaries. You'll report directly to our CFO/COO and work closely with sales, product and leadership to keep Quartr moving fast without cutting corners.

This isn't a role where you inherit a legal department. You'll be the first in-house lawyer at a company already doing serious B2B and enterprise volume, which means you set up the structure, tools and judgment calls yourself, and you own the outcome.
What you'll do

• Take full legal responsibility for the group: a Swedish parent, a US subsidiary and an Irish subsidiary.
• Build a legal function from the ground up: process, templates, playbooks and tooling that scale with the business, not against it.
• Own commercial contracting end to end, with a focus on API and data licensing agreements: MSAs, DPAs, order forms, SOWs.
• Work directly with B2B and enterprise customers to discuss and resolve legal redlines, translating commercial and technical requirements into contracts that protect Quartr without slowing down deals.
• Advise product and engineering teams on data use, IP and liability as we build and ship.
• Manage outside counsel across Sweden, the US and Ireland, and keep cross-jurisdictional matters moving.
• Partner with the CFO/COO on risk, compliance and governance as Quartr grows.

Who you are

• 8-12 years of relevant legal experience, in-house or at a firm, with deep commercial contracting expertise.
• Direct experience negotiating API, SaaS or data licensing agreements with B2B and enterprise customers.
• Comfortable being the only lawyer in the room: confident owning legal risk end to end without a large team around you.
• Technical enough to work closely with product and engineering, and to understand what you're actually contracting around.
• Fluent with contract lifecycle management (CLM) tools, AI-assisted contract review, and e-signature/document workflow platforms, and comfortable choosing and rolling these out from scratch to ensure we build a modern scalable legal function.
• A builder's mindset: you've stood up legal infrastructure before, not just maintained it.
• J.D. and active admission to the New York State Bar (or ability to obtain it promptly).

Nice to have

• Experience across multiple jurisdictions, ideally including Sweden, Ireland or similar.
• Background at a high-growth data company.
• A data-driven approach to legal ops: tracking contract turnaround, risk exposure and outside counsel spend.
