Training will be provided.Required:High school diploma or equivalentCivil Service eligibilityPhysical ability to handle materials weighing up to 80 lbs.Ability to work without supervisionHonestyAbility to take directionsCooperate and get along with othersWork as a member of a teamDesirable:Possess good public relation skillsPossess knowledge of means, methods and materials used in performance of custodial workResponsibilities:The responsibilities of a Custodian include, but are not limited to, the following:Keeps buildings and premises, including sidewalks, driveways and play areas neat, safe and clean at all timesShovels, plows and salts walks, driveways, parking areas and steps as appropriateDusts and cleans on a daily scheduleSweeps and/or vacuums assigned area dailyCleans corridors and steps after school each day and during the day when their condition requires itScrubs and disinfects toilet floors daily and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains dailyKeeps waste baskets empty and cleanLowers the United States Flag each school dayPerforms such yard keeping chores as grass cutting, weed removal, tree trimming and shrubs to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive conditionPerforms minor building repairsReports immediately to the Building Administrator any damage to school propertyReports major repairs needed promptly to the Building AdministratorMoves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the Building AdministratorComplies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and wasteAssumes the responsibility for the closing of the building each school day and for determining before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured and lights, except those left on for safety reasons are turned offCleans chalkboards at least once a weekClimbs ladder to make repairs, changes lights, cleans walls and windowsCleans door glass dailyKeeps custodian closets clean and orderly at all timesPerforms other duties as assignedCanton City School District is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
