As a Locum Physician, you will play an integral role in diagnosing and treating patients with complex pulmonary conditions and critical illnesses. You will work closely with a collaborative healthcare team, ensuring continuity of care and improving patient outcomes. This role is ideal for an associate-level physician seeking immediate clinical impact while enhancing expertise in a fast-paced, patient-focused setting.

 

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for patients with pulmonary and critical care conditions.
• Manage mechanical ventilation and other life-support equipment in intensive care settings.
• Perform and interpret diagnostic procedures including bronchoscopy, thoracentesis, and pulmonary function tests.
• Develop individualized patient care plans in collaboration with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
• Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment strategies to optimize clinical outcomes.
• Respond to emergent situations and deliver critical care interventions as required.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and medical staff regarding diagnoses, treatment options, and prognoses.
• Participate in on-call rotations to ensure 24/7 coverage and continuity of care.
• Provide guidance and clinical support to nursing personnel and other healthcare professionals.
• Stay current with advances in pulmonology, critical care medicine, and best practices.
• Ensure compliance with medical practice standards, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

• Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
• Board certification or board eligibility in Pulmonology and Critical Care.
• Valid, unrestricted medical license to practice in the relevant jurisdiction.
• Minimum of 2–3 years of clinical experience in pulmonology and critical care at the associate level.
• Strong proficiency in managing complex pulmonary conditions and critically ill patients.
• Experience with invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation and critical care monitoring.
• Skilled in performing and interpreting pulmonary diagnostic procedures.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, on-site clinical environment.
• Commitment to providing compassionate, patient-centered, and evidence-based care.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
• Eligibility for malpractice insurance coverage or ability to obtain coverage.

Schedule: Day shifts

Overnight beeper shifts

Patient Volume: 10 per day

8-bed ICU

Duties: Admissions, cross-cover, and pulmonary consults

Required Procedures: Tracheal intubation, central lines, chest tubes, arterial lines, dialysis catheter, thoracentesis, lumbar puncture, conscious sedation, bronchoscopy

Support Staff: Hospitalists, ER physicians, ICU nurses, and respiratory therapists

Must be board-certified

Additional Certifications: ACLS and GA DEA
