Position Overview Serves as an Attorney‑Adviser (General) in the DHA Office of General Counsel located in Falls Church, Virginia. The position is in the Excepted Service and does not confer competitive status. Responsibilities Identify contracting and acquisition legal issues. Prepare and conduct acquisition hearings. Advocate orally and in writing in a professional and ethical manner. Effectively and efficiently manage a heavy caseload of clients with complex legal needs. Qualifications Education: Successful completion of a full course of study from an ABA‑accredited law school (LLB or JD). Bar Membership: Current member in good standing of a state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia Bar. Documentation must be dated within three months of application submission. Experience: Three or more years of professional legal experience after admission to the Bar, commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of this position. Time‑in‑Grade Requirements: Current federal attorneys must have completed 52 weeks at the next lower grade level within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement, or previously served at the same or higher grade. Time‑in‑grade may be waived at management’s discretion. Veteran Preference: The Defense Health Agency considers veteran’s preference eligibility a positive factor. Eligible applicants should indicate their preference and attach supporting documents, such as a DD Form 214.
