Duties

Help

• Greet patients to verify nature of the visit and/or refer to appropriate personnel.
• Maintain appointment system to assist in scheduling various types of appointments for Primary Care Clinics and various Specialty Care Clinics.
• Receive phone calls to provide general hospital information.
• Type routine correspondence, progress reports, medical statements, memoranda and statistical reports using various automation systems and programs.
• Maintain and monitor patient appointment schedules for the clinic/practice.

• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
• This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
• This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
• This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
• Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
• This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations
• This position has a TDY or business travel requirement of 5% of the time to various locations. This may require travel on military aircraft, ships, and vehicles.
• One year trial/probationary period may be required.
• This position requires a qualified typist (minimum 40 words per minute).

In order to qualify, you must meet the Education and/or Experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes greeting patients in person or telephonically to determine patient eligibility; transcribing written orders into various office automation systems to complete patient chart; maintaining files pertaining to patient treatments. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

• This position is located on Fort Lee, surrounding areas is Hopewell, Colonial Heights, Petersburg and Richmond which is 30-40 minutes away. Positions available in Radiology and Primary Care Service Line. Workstation is semi-enclosed, and/ or shared with services that is co-located in the same sq. footage. Position is not telework eligible. Work hours range 0645-1630 but will not exceed an 8-hour workday. Chosen candidate can expect to achieve experience with a new electronic health record system that is conducive to private section systems, knowledge of Military Health System processes and procedures and camaraderie with fellow front desk agents across the facility.
