Veterinary Technician – Emergency, Overnight Shift Los Angeles, CA Bonus Opportunities Registered Veterinary Technician: $5,000 Sign-On Bonus; $2,500 retention bonus at 12 months; $2,500 retention bonus at 24 months (subject to eligibility and agreement terms). Company Overview ACCESS South Bay is one of the largest veterinary multi‑specialty referral groups in Southern California, providing emergency, critical care, cardiology, internal medicine, neurology, and surgery for pets. Role Responsibilities Give accurate and detailed patient rounds. Admit and discharge a patient from the telemetry system. Administer oral medications to dogs or cats; administer IV medications when the patient is on or off IV fluids. Set up and aseptically place IV catheters in dogs (cephalic and saphenous vein) and cats (cephalic and medial saphenous vein); perform IVC maintenance following in‑house protocol. Maintain nursing care, ensuring clean, comfortable bedding and patient cleanliness; check IVC for swelling and confirm patency. Accurately calculate drug doses, converting mg to ml, mcg to mg, g to mg. Set up IV fluid additives for administration (e.g., KCl, Dextrose). Obtain and properly position radiographs. Perform nebulization and coupage on patients. Measure blood pressure with Doppler; understand normal parameters and indicate when to alert the doctor. Understand perfusion parameters and identify basic cardiac arrhythmias such as VPCs; understand treatment. Wrap surgical packs and pouches; perform basic operating room setup and use basic instruments. Set up and leak‑test anesthesia machines and monitoring equipment; use Smartflow monitoring sheet. Identify and use correct blood collection tubes; collect blood from cephalic, lateral, and medial saphenous veins and handle samples properly. Administer subcutaneous fluids to a patient. Run and interpret PCV/TS and understand normal values. Perform in‑house laboratory tests on Idexx Procyte, Catalyst, Coag, Siemens Blood Gas Machine, Abaxus i‑Stat, UA Analyzer, Sedivue. Perform blood typing and log blood products accurately. Demonstrate safe patient restraint for physical exam, blood collection, IV catheter placement, abdominal and cardiac ultrasound. Provide nursing care for non‑ambulatory patients, including sling walk. Monitor and manage patient recovery after surgery or anesthesia. Dispose medical waste safely. Assist with basic CPR. Work on anesthesia on‑call shifts as required. Uphold the spirit of ACCESS by handling all necessary tasks with attention. Experience & Skills Requirements Level 3 technician or higher. Comfortable caring for dogs and cats, and other animals needing emergency or urgent care. Key player on a dynamic team delivering highest standard of patient care. Benefits & Compensation Compensation starts at $25–$44 per hour plus shift differentials: $3 from 11 pm–7 am, $3.50 from 6 pm–4 am, and $2 for all day on weekends.
