Lab Associate I

Lab Associate IAlton Memorial Hospital is seeking a patient-focused Lab Associate I to join our laboratory team. This position plays an important role in supporting patient care through specimen collection, processing, and laboratory support functions. We are looking for a dependable team member who enjoys working in a fast-paced healthcare environment and is committed to providing exceptional service to patients, visitors, and clinical staff.Our team is known for being friendly, collaborative, and highly motivated by quality patient care.ResponsibilitiesCollect blood and non-blood specimens from patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.Perform venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures following established policies and safety guidelines.Process and prepare specimens for testing, including centrifuging and handling samples within the main laboratory.Ensure accurate patient identification and specimen labeling.Monitor and maintain specimen integrity during collection and processing.Answer incoming laboratory phone calls and assist with routine inquiries.Retrieve and distribute items through the pneumatic tube system.Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.Provide excellent customer service to patients, families, physicians, and hospital staff.Complete other laboratory support duties as assigned.QualificationsMinimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.Strong communication and customer service skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Preferred QualificationsTwo or more years of phlebotomy experience in an inpatient and/or outpatient healthcare setting.Previous laboratory or healthcare experience.Phlebotomy certification preferred but not required.Schedule RequirementsPart-time Days/Evenings.Weekday shifts are generally 8 hours.Weekend shifts are generally 10 hours.Rotating weekend schedule (every third weekend).Rotating holiday schedule required.Must be flexible with scheduling needs.Shifts may be scheduled anytime between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.Why Join Alton Memorial Hospital?Supportive and welcoming laboratory team.Patient-centered work environment.Opportunity to make a direct impact on patient care.Collaborative culture focused on quality, service, and teamwork.Since 1937, Alton Memorial Hospital has cared for residents in Alton, Illinois, and the surrounding communities in a five-county area.
