Job Summary

Provide genetic education, counseling, and support to patients and families seeking evaluation for, living with, or at risk for inherited conditions. Partner with an interdisciplinary care team to deliver patient-centered genetic services across a variety of specialty clinics.

Essential Functions

• Evaluate and interpret evidence related to gene-disease associations to support clinical care.
• Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate comprehensive, patient-centered care.
• Assess personal and family histories to evaluate the risk of inherited conditions and genetic disorders.
• Provide individualized genetic counseling, education, and support to patients and families to facilitate informed decision-making.
• Assist in the development and maintenance of patient consent forms, genetic counseling protocols, standard operating procedures, and patient education materials.
• Develop and communicate accurate genetic risk assessments based on clinical findings, family history, and available testing.
• Respond to questions and provide guidance to patients, families, physicians, and staff regarding genetic conditions, testing, and related services.
• Document clinical encounters and recommendations in accordance with organizational and professional standards.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and support the ongoing advancement of genetic counseling services.

Qualifications

Education

• Master's degree in Genetic Counseling required.

Licenses and Credentials

• State Genetic Counselor license required.

Experience

• One to two years of experience in genetic counseling or a related clinical genetics setting preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong interpersonal and patient-centered communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with patients, families, and colleagues.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and accurate documentation practices.
• Ability to interpret and apply current genetic and genomic information in a clinical setting.
• Working knowledge of molecular genetics, genetic testing methodologies, and related scientific principles.
• Ability to assess, analyze, and communicate complex genetic information in a clear and compassionate manner.
• Ability to follow established clinical, research, and regulatory protocols while maintaining confidentiality and professional standards.
• Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
