About the Opportunity We are looking for a Survey Party Chief to join our Community Building team in the Greater Washington/Puget Sound region. This position may be based from one of our Puget Sound-area offices, depending on the selected candidate's location and project needs. In this role, you will independently lead field survey activities and help turn field data into accurate, high-quality project deliverables. You will support a variety of public infrastructure, transportation, utility, land development, and community-building projects throughout the region while working closely with Professional Land Surveyors, project managers, engineers, clients, and other project partners. This is a field-focused position requiring regular travel to project sites throughout the Puget Sound region and other locations as project needs require. Your Role on the Team:

This is a field-focused position requiring regular travel to project sites throughout the Puget Sound region and other locations as project needs require. Your Role on the Team:
- Plan, coordinate, and lead daily field survey activities, including boundary, topographic, construction staking, control, and as-built surveys.
- Direct and support survey crew members while promoting safe, efficient, and professional field operations.
- Operate and maintain modern survey equipment, including robotic total stations, GNSS receivers, digital levels, data collectors, and related technology.
- Review project requirements, maps, plans, record information, and survey instructions to prepare for field assignments.
- Perform field calculations and confirm the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of survey data before leaving the project site.
- Maintain organized and complete field notes, records, sketches, photographs, equipment documentation, and other project information.
- Download, organize, and perform preliminary processing of field data for CAD production and office review.
- Coordinate daily crew needs, site access, equipment, staffing, schedules, and changing field conditions.
- Communicate proactively with Professional Land Surveyors, project managers, engineers, contractors, clients, utility locators, and other project partners.
- Identify and resolve routine technical or delivery issues, escalating conditions that may affect accuracy, safety, scope, schedule, or project requirements.
- Follow established survey standards and QA/QC procedures to produce accurate, defensible, and review-ready work.
- Support and mentor less-experienced survey staff by sharing technical knowledge, reinforcing safe work practices, and helping the team meet project commitments.
- Progressive land surveying experience, including experience independently leading survey fieldwork or serving in a comparable crew-lead role.
- Experience with boundary, topographic, construction staking, control, and as-built surveys.
- Proficiency operating robotic total stations, GNSS equipment, digital levels, data collectors, and related survey technology.
- Ability to interpret plans, maps, legal descriptions, record information, survey instructions, and project requirements.
- Working knowledge of field calculations, data collection, preliminary data processing, and survey QA/QC practices.
- Sound field judgment and the ability to organize daily assignments, adapt to changing conditions, and resolve routine technical issues independently.
- Strong attention to detail and a demonstrated commitment to accuracy, safety, documentation, and high-quality project delivery.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to coordinate effectively with crew members, office staff, contractors, clients, and the public.
- Ability and willingness to work outdoors in varying terrain, weather, and site conditions.
- Ability to travel to project sites throughout the region, including occasional overnight travel as project needs require.
- A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Experience with Trimble survey equipment.
- Experience supporting public infrastructure, transportation, utility, or land development projects in Washington.
