Electrician

Summary

This position is responsible for providing day-to-day operations support, as well as support the Maintenance Manager. This is a full-time hourly position located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This position requires UWUA Local 369 Union membership and reports to the Maintenance Manager. The hourly rate for this position is $56.60.

Responsibilities

• Assume responsibility for the safe and efficient performance of all work assigned.
• Be willing and able to instruct and direct the activities of other employees. Assist contractors assigned to support plant activities.
• Support the Lead Electrician in:
  • Inventory (using computerized inventory system)
  • Materials, tools, and equipment needs
  • Training other electricians
  • Plant documentation
  • Identification of resources required to accomplish assigned tasks
• Work harmoniously and effectively with other employees.
• Install, remove, maintain, repair, test, and operate the plant electrical equipment such as (but not limited to) exciters, M-G sets, electrical system control and interlock control systems, indoor and outdoor lighting systems, station battery and battery charging systems, public address and plant communication systems.
• Install new plant systems and subsystems such as (but not limited to) conduit and raceway, fiber-optic cable, phones, computer interface systems, plant page and phone systems, switchgear, and lighting.
• As requested, operate to remove from/return to service station loads associated with the 110 Vac through 115K-Vac and 120-Vdc switchgear and bus systems.
• Maintain all tools used in the performance of duties in safe and good working order.
• Maintain in a safe, neat, well-organized condition the electrical shop.
• Keep the immediate work area safe and neat; ensure the work area is safe and clean at the completion of the workday.
• Report any unusual conditions.
• May act as inspector of work where electrical contractors are providing plant electrical support.
• Be familiar with all electrical equipment within the plant.
• Maintain the Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) in full compliance with plant procedures and protocol, including all relevant documentation.
• Utilize computerized maintenance management system to support Work Management.

Basic Qualifications

• High school Diploma or GED plus 2 years of trade or technical school (or equivalent) with training in the fundamentals of electricity.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial or power plant electrical environment of a kind and quality indicating ability to perform this job.
• Massachusetts Journeyman Electrician’s License.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret electrical circuit diagrams, 1-line diagrams, panel diagrams, etc.
• Have a strong understanding of power plant circuitry, equipment, layout, and switching procedures.
• Highly skilled in the operation, installation, removal, maintenance, testing, and repair of power plant auxiliary electrical equipment.

Other Qualifications

• Possess basic computer literacy.
• Have a good safety record.

Physical Requirements

• Must submit to a company provided physical and drug screening as part of the pre-employment screening process.
• Standing, sitting, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, walking on uneven surfaces, and grating, working from elevated platforms, scaffolding or ladders, required to lift up to and including 50 pounds and maneuver up to and including 100 pounds.
• Must qualify to wear a respirator.
• Ability to tolerate confined spaces, including manholes and varying temperatures and weather conditions.
• Exposed to temperature extremes, high noise level areas, high pressure steam lines, rotating equipment, and dusty/dirty environment.
• Required to wear PPE such as hard hat, safety glasses, safety shoes, and hearing protection.
