Job Description
The Maintenance Engineer works as part of the maintenance team and is responsible for the repair, upkeep, and reliable operation of industrial production machinery. This role focuses on electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic maintenance and repair of automated equipment, including waterjets, conveyors, stamping cells, and other production machinery. The position supports a high-volume manufacturing environment by responding to machine downtime, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring equipment runs safely and efficiently.
Responsibilities

• Perform electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic repairs on automated industrial machinery, including waterjets, conveyors, stamping cells, and related equipment.
• Conduct preventive maintenance on production machines to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
• Respond promptly to down machine calls, diagnose root causes, and restore equipment to safe operating condition.
• Independently handle electrical and hydraulic repairs to components when assigned, including troubleshooting and resolving complex issues.
• Repair and rebuild hydraulic systems, including pumps, cylinders/rams, and lines, to maintain proper machine function.
• Carry out machine repair tasks on a wide range of production equipment, leveraging at least 4 years of recent experience.
• Either edit and adjust robotic teach points (such as Fanuc teach points) or independently troubleshoot and repair electrical issues, depending on experience.
• Collaborate with other maintenance technicians across shifts to balance preventive maintenance workload and share responsibilities.
• Support production operations by working extended shifts of 10 or more hours as needed to meet manufacturing demands.
• Work 2-3 Saturdays per month and additional weekend days as required to support a 6-7 day-per-week operation.
• Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment, lockout/tagout procedures, and safe work practices around hydraulic presses and automated machinery.
• Communicate equipment status, repair activities, and maintenance needs clearly to team members and supervisors.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts usage to support continuous improvement and reliability.
• Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance equipment performance and reduce unplanned downtime.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience in hydraulics, including repair and rebuilding of pumps, cylinders/rams, and hydraulic lines.
• At least 4 years of recent machine repair experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Ability to either edit and work with robotic teach points (such as Fanuc teach points) or independently troubleshoot and repair electrical issues on production equipment.
• Hands-on experience performing electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic repairs on automated machinery.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems on complex production systems.
• Capability to work 10+ hour shifts on a regular basis in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Willingness and ability to work weekends, including 2-3 Saturdays per month, as part of a 6-7 day-per-week operation.
• Comfort working with stamping cells and hydraulic presses, including frequent hydraulic and mechanical repair tasks.
• Ability to work effectively within a small team of maintenance technicians on each shift and share workload across shifts.
• Commitment to following safety procedures and using required personal protective equipment at all times.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with stamping or injection molding equipment.
• Welding skills for repair and fabrication work.
• Tooling experience, including adjustment, maintenance, or repair of tooling used in stamping or related processes.
• Familiarity with Fanuc robotics and editing Fanuc teach points.
• Interest in ongoing training in electrical and PLC systems.
• Ability to adapt to a high-volume automotive manufacturing environment with multiple stamping cells and presses.

Work Environment
The role is based in a manufacturing facility that produces carpeted and backed products for the automotive industry, including soundproof, weatherproof, and waterproof backing for vehicle floorboard carpets. The plant operates multiple stamping cells, typically 10-12 cells with roughly 6 presses per cell, resulting in frequent hydraulic and mechanical repair work. The maintenance team runs across three shifts, with a goal of maintaining two technicians per shift and eventually three technicians per shift once expansion is complete. Shifts are structured as 1st shift (7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.), 2nd shift (3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.), and 3rd shift (11:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.), and the facility commonly operates 6-7 days per week. Preventive maintenance is balanced across all shifts, and the team shares the workload to support continuous production. As the plant grows and staffing levels increase, weekend work is expected to decrease. The dress code includes jeans or work pants, with work shirts provided, and requires steel-toe footwear and safety glasses. The environment is typical of a busy automotive manufacturing plant, with automated machinery, stamping presses, and a strong emphasis on safety and teamwork.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Port Huron, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $32.00/hr.
