SUBSTANCE USE MEDICAL DIRECTOR

Substance Use Medical Director

The Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery is seeking to hire an experienced, dedicated physician to serve as the Substance Use Medical Director and medical advisor for the Division's substance use programs and services. This position will advise on current trends in medication interventions, with a specific concentration in utilization management, including new psychosocial therapies, disease management, outcomes monitoring, and research practice. The position will provide leadership and advise the Division regarding integrating substance use disorder, mental health, and primary care services through the development of policies, utilization review, data, and infrastructure. The position will represent the Division on related task forces and committees, participate in speaking engagements and conferences representing the Division, and serve as primary liaison to State agencies and community providers on medical issues related to substance use disorders.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Requires a valid Illinois license to practice medicine.
• Requires an American Board of Specialties certification or its equivalent in Family Practice, preferably in the subspecialty of Addiction Medicine.
• Requires three (3) years of substantive medical administrative experience directing, planning, and evaluating a medical/clinical or medical program.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Three (3) years of professional experience providing and coordinating addiction services, including the prescribing and administration of medication for opioid use disorder.
• Three (3) years of professional experience developing policies and guidelines related to the provision of substance use disorder services, including training of interdisciplinary personnel.
• Two (2) years of professional experience coordinating professional health services, disciplines, and program support functions to administer a comprehensive medical health program, including performing quality assurance assessments of medical services and treatments provided to patients and/or individuals.
• Two (2) years of professional experience developing and maintaining effective working relationships across multiple clinical disciplines, as well as with government agencies, education, and research institutions, and other organizations, communicating clearly and effectively with internal and/or external stakeholders daily regarding medical services.
• Two (2) years of professional experience managing and evaluating the delivery of medical care, treatment, and services.
• Two (2) years of professional experience supervising staff in the medical field as well as other clinical professionals across multiple clinical disciplines.
• Two (2) years of professional experience conducting critical incident reviews and investigations and recommending changes to medical service programs.

Work Hours:

• Approved part-time schedule options:
• Consistent 5 days 4-hours each/20 hours per week
• Consistent 4 days 5-hours each/20 hours per week
• Two full days 7.5 hours each and one 5-hour day/ 20 hours per week
• Two full days 7.5 hours each and two 2.5 hour days/ 20 hours per week
• One full day (7.5 hours) + Two 5 hour days and One 2.5 hour Day/ 20 hours per week
• Two 4- hour days; Two 4 hour days + One 3-hour Day/ 20 hours per week
• Three 3.5-hour days + One 4.5 hour day + One 5-hour day/20 hours per week
