Software Engineer II (Java/Azure) Location: Buffalo, NY (Hybrid - 4 Days Onsite)Employment Type: W2 Only*OPEN TO RELOCATION CANDIDATES*OverviewOur client is seeking a Software Engineer to support a large-scale modernization initiative within Commercial Banking. This role will play a critical part in the migration from the legacy AFS platform to AFS VisionPro, while helping transform and modernize the surrounding application ecosystem through cloud-native development and Azure adoption.The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Java development, Azure cloud services, API integration, and enterprise application modernization. This individual will help design and develop scalable solutions that enable seamless integration between VisionPro, internal banking systems, and cloud-based platforms while supporting the migration of applications and services from on-premises data centers to Microsoft Azure.This is an opportunity to join a highly visible multi-year transformation program impacting core commercial lending platforms across the bank.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain Java-based applications and Azure serverless solutions supporting the AFS VisionPro platform.Build and enhance APIs and middleware services that facilitate integration between VisionPro, internal banking applications, and third-party platforms.Participate in migrating applications and services from on-premises environments to Microsoft Azure.Develop Azure Functions and event-driven solutions leveraging Azure-native services.Implement secure API integrations using modern authentication and authorization standards, including OAuth 2.0 and Managed Identities.Collaborate with business stakeholders, architects, product teams, and vendor partners to define technical requirements and deliver scalable solutions.Support application modernization efforts by refactoring legacy components into cloud-native architectures.Establish and maintain robust monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational support capabilities.Conduct system analysis, design reviews, code reviews, and technical documentation.Troubleshoot and resolve production issues across distributed systems and integrated applications.Mentor junior developers and contribute to technical leadership within the team.Promote best practices around software engineering, testing, security, and DevOps automation.Required Technical SkillsJava DevelopmentStrong experience with Core Java, including:Object-Oriented Programming (OOP)Multithreading and concurrencyData structures and algorithmsException handling and performance optimizationExperience developing enterprise-grade applications using Spring Boot.Strong understanding of RESTful API design and development.Experience with Maven and/or Gradle.Experience writing automated tests using JUnit and Mockito.Azure Cloud Development (or similar with AWS)Hands-on experience with:Azure FunctionsAzure StorageAzure Service Bus and/or Event HubAzure Key VaultManaged IdentitiesAzure Monitoring and Application InsightsUnderstanding of serverless and event-driven architecture patterns.Experience supporting cloud migration and modernization initiatives.API & Integration DevelopmentExperience consuming and developing APIs using:Java ClientApache WebClientStrong understanding of:JSON processing and serializationAPI security and authenticationOAuth 2.0API Keys and Basic AuthError handling, retry strategies, and resiliency patternsDevOps & SDLCGit source control experience.CI/CD pipeline implementation and support.Experience with automated deployments and software delivery best practices.Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.QualificationsRequiredBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience.5+ years of software engineering and application development experience.Experience designing and supporting enterprise-scale applications.Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.Ability to work independently while collaborating across multiple teams.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.PreferredExperience with AFS VisionPro or commercial lending platforms.Banking or financial services industry experience.Experience with cloud migration initiatives and modernization programs.Understanding of lending, servicing, or commercial banking operations.Experience working within highly regulated environments.What You'll Be Working OnThis role is part of a strategic Commercial Banking transformation program focused on:Upgrading from the legacy AFS platform to AFS VisionProModernizing lending technology and integration servicesMigrating applications from on-premises data centers to Microsoft AzureBuilding cloud-native APIs and event-driven solutionsImproving scalability, security, and operational efficiency across critical banking systemsIf you're passionate about enterprise modernization, cloud technologies, and building the next generation of banking applications, we'd love to hear from you.Top Skills:Java / Spring BootAzure Functions & Azure ServicesAPI Development & IntegrationCloud Migration / Azure ModernizationOAuth 2.0 & SecurityAFS VisionPro (Preferred)Banking Experience (Preferred)Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Buffalo, NY.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $70.00 - $75.00/hr.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
