HVAC Technician

Job Summary The HVAC Technician is responsible for performing preventative, corrective, and predictive maintenance and for providing recommendations to commercial HVAC systems as appropriate. In addition, the technician acts as a multi‑craft specialist, performing duties related to plumbing, electrical, and general building maintenance. The role requires understanding of control operation and sequence for commercial HVAC systems and the ability to communicate across multiple trades, fostering strong relationships with customers, vendors, and team members. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Complete thorough preventative maintenance checks and services on all standard package and split‑unit HVAC systems, including inspection and repair/replacement of belts and pulleys, condensate drain line cleaning, testing of compressor, fan motor, and blower motor performance, and verification of safety burners, heat exchangers, and operational controls. General repairs of steam/hot‑water boiler systems and diagnose airflow and ducting issues. Use refrigerants safely and in compliance with EPA regulations for standard package and split‑unit HVAC systems. Diagnose and repair common mechanical, electrical, or system failures on boiler, package, and split‑unit HVAC units, including belts, pulleys, compressors, condensing units, circuitry boards, contactors, leaks, and copper component brazing. Maintain and troubleshoot AC motor controls and variable‑frequency drives (VFDs). Execute preventative maintenance and repairs per work‑order requirements. Conduct service and asset inspections as needed. Fully utilize technology tools (tablet, smartphone). Access and complete work orders, including notes on services performed. Create and submit service reports and quality inspection images and reports. Create a positive client climate, provide customer satisfaction, and maintain timely communications with customers and internal support teams. Complete required safety and compliance training, attend safety meetings, and adhere to all building codes and company policies. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications HS diploma or equivalent degree/certification in a trade (Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, etc.) or equivalent professional experience. Five or more years of HVAC experience in commercial, industrial, or manufacturing service. Ability to read and comprehend instructions, safety policies, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence and to present information effectively in individual and small‑group settings. Compliance with OSHA standards and company safety policies. EPA Universal certification. Valid driver’s license in good standing and possession of required certifications and licenses.
