Department Overview The Division of Student Affairs and Success (DSAS), led by the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Success, consists of nearly 800 professional staff and 2100 student staff spanning five major units. Deeply devoted to offering students a transformational educational experience, our division provides campus-wide coordination and leadership of student success programs, activities, and initiatives. The Student Success and Equity (SSE) portfolio of departments is a branch of DSAS focused on academic support services, advising/counseling, student life/co-curricular programming, student identity development and retention/student success initiatives. Student Success and Equity provides services to the campus community with over 17,000 undergraduate and graduate students and has over 90 career employees and 475 student staff employees operating in 8 facilities/locations. The Student Success and Equity area includes a wide array of multi-disciplinary academic and non-academic units including: Disability Resource Center (DRC), Educational Opportunity Programs (EOP), Learning Support Services, Services for Transfer, Re-entry and Resilient Scholars (STARRS), Renaissance Scholars Program (including Foster Youth), Veteran Resource Center, African American Resource and Cultural Center (AARCC), American Indian Resource Center (AIRC), Asian American/Pacific Islander Resource Center (AA/PIRC), Chicano/Latino Resource Center (El Centro), Women’s Center (WC), the Lionel Cantu Queer Center (LGBTQ+), Undocumented Student Services (USS), the UCSC Hispanic Serving Institution Initiatives (HSI), African Black and Caribbean Student Success, Career Success, and campus committees/programs, and the Administrative and Business team for the unit. The Student Success and Equity area includes all of the units and over 125 state, federal, student service fees and gift fund sources and an annual operating budget of nearly $20 million dollars. The Disability Resource Center (DRC) leads UC Santa Cruz in providing educational equity and a welcoming environment for students with disabilities. The DRC identifies legally mandated Accommodations that address disabling barriers and work with faculty and students to remove barriers. The DRC educates the campus on disability diversity and equal educational access. The team ensures compliance with State, Federal and local laws and ensures compliance with UC policies. Travel Never or Rarely Job Duties 40% - Analysis & Planning In collaboration with the Director of the Disability Resource Center (DRC), participates in administrative / research policy and program project planning and development, which could include gathering data for a grant, reports for the division, campus or UCOP. Provides a variety of analytical duties in support of a function, research initiative, program, and/or organizational unit. On a project basis, performs analytical studies on a variety of policies, research initiatives, programs, and issues. Coordinates program planning and collaboration with program/project staff. Works to ensure smooth operations across the DRC through planning and integration of data collected through a variety of methods. Planning includes supporting fiscal, physical, regulatory, and communication functions. 20% - Policy, Project and Strategy Support for DRC Leadership Team Applies professional or research concepts to perform analysis of data and systems pertaining to moderately complex projects, policies, initiatives, processes, and/or functions. Gathers and assembles analytical and factual data on assigned problems and issues to prepare reports and analysis summarizing information on the assigned issues and commenting on other significance for internal or external constituents. Prepares, edits, and modifies documents, including research reports, manuscripts, presentations, and proposals. Provides recommendations and guidelines involving programs/initiatives. Provides calendar and project support to the Director. Under the direction of the Director, coordinates weekly staff meetings by preparing agendas, organizing meeting materials, ensuring meeting space is prepared and tracking action items. Using subject matter knowledge, collects and prepares information for use in discussions and meetings of internal and external constituents. Supports the coordination of events for the DRC under the direction of the DRC directors and in collaboration with the DRC leadership team. 20% - Operations Provides operational oversight for the Disability Resource Center, including: office management, development of policies, and communication of information. Coordinates the daily operations of the Disability Resource Center office. Supervises, trains, schedules, and provides day-to-day direction to student office assistants to ensure effective office coverage and exceptional customer service. Oversees front desk operations, ensuring efficient workflow and professional service for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Processes purchase orders and procurement requests in accordance with university policies and departmental procedures. Purchases and maintains office supplies and operational materials to support departmental functions. Maintains keys and office equipment inventory. Acts as Workplace Safety Coordinator and Business Continuity Coordinator for the department. Fosters a collaborative and inclusive office environment that supports student success and departmental excellence. 15% - Direct Student Support Triages inquiries and directs students, faculty, and staff to appropriate DRC personnel or campus resources. Completes student intake procedures, ensuring required documentation is collected and accurately entered into departmental systems. Responds to and manages responses to urgent inquiries from students, parents, faculty, and other community members. Responds to crisis situations in the office, providing support, de-escalating issues, assessing and developing appropriate responses, etc. Coordinates and, as needed, represents the DRC office at various student outreach activities. 5% - Continuing Education Participates in professional development activities to remain current on disability services, accessibility practices, customer service standards, university systems, and administrative procedures. Keeps apprised of all new changes and developments in the field of higher education as applicable to job functions. Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience/training. Working knowledge of common organization, or research-specific, and other computer application programs. Proficient in communicating effectively in writing. Proficient in effective verbal communication. Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills. Proficient in the ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality. Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns. Demonstrated ability to analyze, research, and synthesize large amounts of data with a strong attention to detail. Proficient in ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes. Working knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques. Experience hiring and supervising student employees in a service environment. Experience and ability to work with individuals from a broad range of ethnic and cultural backgrounds with sensitivity and professionalism. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of disability related issues. Experience in UCSC programs such as AIS Enterprise Portal, CruzBuy, CruzPay, and Infoview. Experience working in a post-secondary environment. Experience with handling records subject to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
