Job Description: At all times the employee will adhere to all safety and compliance policies, protocols, and guidelines set forth by the Nanoscale Research Facility, the University of Florida, and the State of Florida. The employee's principle responsibility will be in the operation and maintenance of research equipment associated with the Nanoscale Research Facility (NRF) at the University of Florida and interacting with faculty, students and other users of the NRFs. The primary set of equipment for this position will include thermal process furnaces, wire bonding, wafer dicing, wafer bonding, thin film deposition, plasma etching. Additional instrument, tools, and facilities oversight for this position may be expanded to include:
• Any instruments, tools, and facilities associated with materials characterization
• Any instruments, tools, and facilities associated with particle characterization
• Any instruments, tools, and facilities associated with micro/nano fabrication
• Facility infrastructure support The employee will:
• Be charged with keeping the equipment in good working order
• Aid in installation of new instrumentation
• Aid in modification of existing instrumentation
• Operate the equipment for production of research samples
• Maintain stock and supplies
• Maintain chemical use and chemical waste safety practices in accord with UF Division of Environmental Health and Safety requirements
• Facilitate scheduling of the equipment use
• Develop new characterization and processing techniques
• Assist in identifying, specifying, and ordering new equipment
• Develop and teach courses for training users in safety and proper operating procedures
• Take courses and training on the equipment needed in the performance of the position The employee will interact with faculty, students, and research staff in use of this equipment and in training students as part of their education. This will entail both operating equipment for the production of research data and samples and training of personnel in the proper and safe use of the equipment as well as subsequent supervision of trained personnel to ensure responsible use.
The employee will advise and report regularly to the NRF Director and Associate Director on all issues and policies relating to the NRF user program, including safety, operations and requests. The employee will participate in the continuing oversight of NRF facilities and promoting NRF/customer interactions. The employee will participate as a member of the on-call emergency response team of the NRF. This will require for the employee to learn the Building Automation System (BAS) system and its policies put in place by the Facility Manager. This participation will include a special pay increase (SPI) that is based upon the number of NRF employees participating in the on-call, the annual total number of on-call hours, and the employee's pay scale. This SPI will remain in place as long as the employee participates as a member of the NRF on-call team and will be removed when the employee no longer participates in the on-call response team. Other duties as assigned in support of the Nanoscale Research Facility (NRF). Expected Salary:
$68,000-$75,000 annually; commensurate with education and salary Required Qualifications:
A high school diploma or equivalent and six years of relevant experience; Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience; or Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience. Preferred: Master's degree in appropriate science/engineering specialization. Prefer advanced degree in physics, chemistry, or engineering.
• Knowledge of electrical, chemical, and general laboratory safety.
• Experience with ultra-high vacuum technology and gas handling systems.
• Experience with backend microfabrication techniques such as wafer dicing, die bonding, wire bonding.
• Experience with materials characterization techniques.
• Experience with particle characterization techniques.
• Experience with micro/nano fabrication techniques.
• Understanding of process integration job functions.
• Ability to organize, conduct, and record maintenance of research equipment.
• Good communication skills. Can produce clear data, presentations, and reports, as well as oral presentations.
