Data Center Technician Role The Data Center Technician I assists in the operational integrity, security, and regulatory compliance of the data center. This Tier 1 technician will learn and gain experience by supporting day‑to‑day operations, security functions, general site response, and customer interaction. Responsibilities include identifying and resolving data center problems quickly, ensuring contractors provide quality services, and meeting internal customer demands. Responsibilities Monitor and respond to mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and security system alarms (transformers, PLCs, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, etc.). Assist with day‑to‑day operations, security functions, and general site response. Ensure data‑center problems are identified and repaired promptly. Provide incident escalation, report writing, and detailed daily activity logs. Offer physical security within CoreSite premises and support customer security. Perform regular facility and security tours, documenting and following up on findings. Manage building service requests, loading‑dock shipping/receiving, and work orders. Adhere to CoreSite’s Principles of Operational Excellence and guiding principles. Support system management to avoid unplanned customer‑impacting outages. Participate in special projects as assigned. Qualifications High School diploma or higher. 1+ year of experience in customer service or security industry. Experience in a mission‑critical facility is a plus. Ability to work independently and follow escalation procedures. Schedule flexibility to work non‑standard hours, weekends, late nights, holidays, and on‑call support. Strong troubleshooting skills and quick learning ability. Proficiency with electrical tools (multimeter, infrared camera) and hand tools. Competence with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Pass an extensive background check. Physical ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, stoop, kneel, reach, and lift up to 50 lbs. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Write concise and accurate reports. Escalate incidents effectively. Familiarity with CCTV, access, and control security systems. Communicate clearly with customers and internal staff. Logical analysis and problem‑solving abilities. Multi‑tasking across multiple projects. Physical Demands The role requires standing, walking, sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, reaching with hands and arms, and lifting up to 50 lbs. The position demands working in a high‑stress, fast‑paced environment with shifting priorities and willingness to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, late nights, holidays, and on‑call support.
