About the Position

It has 29 beds, providing care in a step-down environment. The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:5-6. Common patient diagnoses include cardiac conditions, post-cardiac catheterization, acute myocardial infarction, and post-operative lung surgeries. Respiratory failings, chest tubes, pacemakers, and post-percutaneous interventions are also common. RNs are expected to titrate drips such as Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Heparin, and Nitro up to 50 mcg. There is a charge nurse on duty 24/7; however, the charge nurse does take a patient assignment during night shifts. The unit utilizes Certified Nursing Assistants to assist with patient care, with a typical ratio of 1 CNA for every 12 patients. The unit is equipped with CPAP and BiPap devices, with respiratory therapists managing these treatments. Registered Nurses are required to read and interpret telemetry strips, using Phillips monitors. Shifts are scheduled as either 7 PM to 7 AM. Travelers are required to work every other weekend. Holiday work is incorporated into the rotation with permanent staff. Staff may be required to float to other MedSurg/Telemetry units if needed. The dress code requires RN to wear royal blue scrubs. This position does not require prior orientation shifts, as travelers will be expected to integrate quickly into the team. Overall, this is a fast-paced unit focusing on high-quality cardiac and telemetry nursing care.
