Social Worker Investigative, Assessment, & Treatment- Foster Care (Posting # 631181-2847)

Description The person in this position is responsible for providing social work services to children and the parents/caretakers whose children have been placed in the custody of the Department of Social Services through the Courts as a result of abuse, neglect, and/or dependency. The person in this position will be responsible for helping the parents/caretakers overcome barriers to achieving permanence with the children. The person in this position will evaluate the type of substitute care needed for the children, locate, and arrange the substitute care, supervise the children’s placements to ensure the children’s needs are met. The person in this position will also provide services to ensure that regular contact is maintained between the children and their family. The person is this position will be responsible for transporting the children and parents/caretakers when needed. The person in this position will also be responsible for testifying in court regularly and being on-call after hours/weekends periodically to assess situations of abuse, neglect and/or dependency and perform additional related duties. Requirements Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work and one year of social work experience; a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of social work and two years of social work or counseling experience; Master’s degree in a counseling field and two years of social work or counseling experience; a four-year degree in a human services field or related curriculum and three years of social work or counseling experience; graduation from a four-year college or university and four years of experience in rehabilitation counseling, pastoral counseling or related human service field providing experience in the techniques of casework, group work or community organization. Other requirements include possession of a driver’s license valid in the state of N.C. Note: In accordance with State mandates and the Halifax County Emergency Operations Plan, Halifax County Social Services staff are required to staff emergency shelters during times of disaster. Please be advised that every staff person is eligible to be assigned to an emergency shelter or Emergency Operations Center.
